Lol. According to this lot , it seems every prominent golfer on the planet has a horrendous hard luck story or suffered a tragedy. None of them has led an enchanted life of privilege and luxury, just experienced horrific "trauma" when life threw the odd curve ball at them, like it does to every one of us.
This modern internet rubbish is now so pervasive. I think you'd struggle to find almost anyone who wouldnt swap their lot with any one of the lifestyles and "suffering" of these "down-trodden victims"! Lol
Utterly hilarious!
I think it was Pat Summerall once said that the best advice Ken ever gave him was to learn when to keep your mouth shut and say nothing. Or something to the liking. Many announcers should learn that advice.
I slowed down the video and watched his swing. So much would be considered a 'mistake' today. Takes it on the inside and that early wrist cock. Just goes to show – – Do what works for you!
Some of the best analysts played well and they were there…they didn’t dominate…But they knew and understood the game. Ken was one of those
There is NOTHING TRAGIC about Ken Venturi's story. He achieved far more than others. He had adversity. He had loss of loved ones. But he had the praise of his father, who said to Ken while he was recovering in the hospital from heat stroke at the U.S. Open, regarding his golf, "You were the best I ever saw!" Venturi overcame adversity and did it as a gentleman. He was, in fact, heroic.
Here in Scotland I know of two guys called Jim Hart ! One is an ex work colleague and the other is a friend . Both men have severe stammers ! What are the odds of two regular guys with the same name having identical speech disabilities? Both are class guys and I am the lucky one to know both of them .
If you went out on to a golf course to watch golf you wouldn’t want someone talking in your ear. I turn golf commentators off !
I attended a prayer breakfast at Congressional CC during the Kemper Tourenment in the 80's. The founder, Kemper, was a recovering alcoholic. He would invite famous people to give their recovery stories. Ken Venturi was a speaker in front of many powerful men. He said this was the first time he would relate his experience. When his first wife divorced him, he was packing to move and picked up a Bible. At that moment, he swore off drinking. He was shaking visibly. The room was eerily silent until he stopped. He received a standing ovation.
