John Doyle showed no signs of final day nerves as he cruised to a five shot win at the Boylesports Lee Valley Scratch Cup.
Doyle closed with a final round of 69 at Lee Valley Golf Club as he held off fellow Fota Island clubman David Howard who was eight-under after a 72.
The teenager started solidly with six opening pars and he recovered from a bogey on the 7th with an eagle on the par-5 8th and a birdie on the 9th as he took control of the tournament.
The Munster Strokeplay champion birdied the 11th, bogeyed the 13th but picked up another birdie on 14 to ensure he was able to ease himself to victory.
East of Ireland champion Howard was doing his best to make it a two-horse race and he did lay the gauntlet down to Doyle as he bounced back from an opening bogey with birdies on the 2nd, 8th, 9th and 11th.
Unfortunately Howard carded bogeys at the wrong time on 12, 17 and 18 but he still came away with the runner-up prize.
Carton House man and Charleville native Jordan Boles finished third on four-under after a closing 69 while Rosslare’s Mark Shanahan was fourth and Cork’s Jonathon O’Sullivan was fifth.
David Reddan claimed sixth place on two-under after the low round of the day 67.
Ben Murray took the low Lee Valley Member prize on level-par while the Best Nett also went to home member Mark Behan.
