New chair named at Richmond Golf Club after Senior Open success

Richmond Golf Club chairman Mick Campbell has stepped down after nearly five years in the role.

Mick Campbell announced his departure from Richmond Golf Club during the club’s annual general meeting on April 16.

Lee Coward, a member of the board of directors, has taken over the role.

Mr Campbell said: “It has been an honour and privilege to serve as chair of Richmond Golf Club since 2021.

“During this time the membership has grown and significant improvements have been achieved both on the course and the facilities.

“I’d like to thank the Board of Directors, the staff and of course the membership, who have given me great support”.

Mr Coward said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of Chair and aim to build on the legacy left by Mick and continue the success of this great Golf Club.”

Meanwhile, Richmond Golf Club held a Senior Open Competition on Thursday April 16 when players from the region and beyond took part in windy and wet conditions.

Despite the weather, some great scores were achieved.

The results:

1st – Andrew Langford & Julie Philpott, Romanby

2nd – Jeffrey Allen Serlby & Gillian Allen, Rotherham

3rd – Anthony Farrer & Sylvia Glendinning, Saltburn

4th – Gordon Carver & Suzanne Carver, Richmond

Best Gross – Martin Catt & Karen Jobling, Richmond

Nearest the pin on 18th – Andy Robinson, Rudding Park

Ivan Rookes, Gents’ Captain at Richmond said: “What a great day we had with a great turnout for our Senior Open. Thanks to all who took part and to the Green Staff, Volunteers, Bar and Catering Staff who helped with the event.”
