  1. This conversation highlights a problem in golf. Too many people think there is one way of dressing like you are going to play golf. Some say we should all wear trousers and sweaters. Some like the Nike and Adidas athletic look. Others like a Southern Tide catalog. The truth is, wear what you like, what the weather requires and what is respectful. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing players sweltering to death in long pants on a 90 degree summer day in the Midwest. And hats? The only reason most of these guys wear hats is because they get paid money to do so because the cameras focus on their faces. They get the sun tan of a two colored Vice golf ball. I get a club like ANGC requiring pants and subdued attire. There is a tradition there, and everything about it is a private club inviting the world into their circle for the best tournament in golf. But for the majority of events, let these guys wear shorts for crying out loud. The vast majority of golf is played in shorts, except on tour. Wearing pants on a warm day outside for an athletic event, wearing pants is not in most guys’ DNA. Allow the full range of attire, whether you want to dress like Harry Vardon or Chi Chi or Arnie or Brooks and Scottie. Make it respectful, sport specific, and adapted to your preference. We let John Daly wear Zubaz on the course, Mallbon to outfit Jason in the Audubon Society’s greatest hits album cover, and Greg Norman wear a Panama hat (no one looks good in a Panama hat unless your name is Marco the Narco).
