A community effort has delivered a major boost for mental health support in Somerset.
Members of The Mendip Golf Club, led by ladies’ captain Louise Scott and men’s captain Jack Hayes, raised £12,305.62 over the past year for Mind in Somerset, doubling their original target.

The funds were raised through a packed calendar of events, beginning with the captains’ charity day, which alone raised £6,000.
Ms Scott said: “Our members were extremely generous and were very happy to donate to such a worthy cause.
“We choose Mind in Somerset as we all know someone who has or have had issues with mental health, and supporting a charity covering the Somerset region was an easy choice.”
The charity day saw 13 businesses sponsor holes, and included competitions, a putting challenge, driving games, and a barbecue at the halfway point.

Mr Hayes’s company, Code A Weld A Phenna Group Company, sponsored a hole and donated an extra £1,000.
Other fundraising activities included raffles, quizzes, and silent auctions.
Among the more unusual efforts was Ms Scott’s 66-hole ‘birthday bash,’ which raised more than £1,000.
The club also hosted a series of captain and pro challenges, where club professionals and captains teamed up to take on members in friendly competition.
Mr Hayes said: “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved as a club.

“The support has been outstanding, and raising over £12,000 for Mind in Somerset is a fantastic result.”
Mind in Somerset runs 57 services for people grappling with mental health challenges.
Vicky Poole, fundraising manager at Mind in Somerset, said: “We are so grateful to the members of The Mendip Golf Club for their incredible generosity.
“We run 57 services across the county for people struggling with mental health issues, and this donation will help us enormously.”
The amount raised far exceeded the club’s initial target, which was met just through the charity day, making the full-year total especially remarkable.
