Women’s club captain Kennedy Sarich was the rose among the thorns in the net competition on Sunday.
Sarich won with 91-21-70, heading off Beau Toa (70 on countback), Butch McKenzie (70) and Shannon Toa (71).

Waikohu
It was a tough day at Te K on Saturday.
Scoring underlined the struggle for everyone who turned out for “Take 2″ of the postponed Waikohu Ladies’ Open, which also featured round 4 of the Tairāwhiti women’s interclub pennants series.
Electrinet Park players Carney Pipi and Holly Miller didn’t light it up, but did well enough to win.
Pipi had the best gross, 84, while a couple of big numbers did not stop Miller from topping the Stableford with just 30 points.
Mahia’s Renee Hiko won the net with a similarly modest 78, one ahead of Wairoa’s Tina Duncan.

Poverty Bay
One bad hole cost Tene Goldsmith another age-breaking round and competition victory last Thursday.
The 79-year-old had to settle for equalling his age instead – 79-10-69 – and second place in the Division 1 men’s Stableford.
“Goldie” went out in 37 and was 4-over after 13 holes only to triple-bogey the 14th. He finished with four straight pars to post his second age-equalling score since turning 79 on February 21. He broke his age with 77 on February 10.
The number 77 has been prevalent for Stephen Francks in his sub-80 performances this year. All three have been 77s, the latest coming on Saturday and winning him the Division 1 men’s Stableford with 39 points.
Ross Morley’s best round at the Awapuni Links in several years – 80-13-67, for 41 points – won Division 2.
Jack Rowe recorded a personal best 77 last month and a second-best round last week. His 78-10-68, for 40 points, won the Division 1 men’s Stableford on Thursday.
The Tom Shaw Memorial Awapuni Shootout scheduled for last Sunday was postponed “due to threatening weather”. As it turned out, sunburn was more a threat than getting wet, and the event has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 10.

Hiria McClutchie led home a small field in Sunday’s club Stableford. Her 90-19-71, for 33 points, was highlighted by a two on the ninth hole.

Tahunga’s opening day is on Sunday.

Women’s pennants
Watch your back was the warning from Mahia as they ate into Pātutahi’s lead in round 4 of the Tairāwhiti women’s interclub pennants on Saturday.
A 6-2 defeat of Electrinet Park at host club Waikohu earned Mahia eight points (two for an individual win and two for a team win) and lifted them to second on the table.
Maraea Wesche, Suzy Adam and Paipan Denigan posted matchplay wins for Mahia, who moved to five points behind top-of-the-table Pātutahi.
Raukura Chesley’s win saved Park from a whitewash.
Poverty Bay and Pātutahi fought out a 4-all draw, each also receiving a point for the team half.
Megan Allen and Lynne Holmberg had wins for PB while Sheree Gray and Kennedy Sarich were Pātutahi’s victors.
Wairoa and Te Puia Hot Springs also shared the honours. Hiria McClutchie and Pauline Summersby won for the Springs; June Underhill and Tina Duncan for Wairoa.
Waikohu received an instant 10 points as hosts.
Round 5 is at Electrinet Park on May 2.

Endeavour men’s pennants
The long and winding State Highway 35 road proved a magical mystery tour for the day-tripping Poverty Bay boys on Saturday.
PB picked up points in all six of their matches in round 2 of the Endeavour Shield men’s handicap interclub pennants hosted by Te Puia Hot Springs.
Andy Hayward, Stu Harbottle, Peter Hakiwai and new members Kelly Spring and Jason Lloyd had wins, while Lindsay Hunt contributed a half as PB amassed 22 out of a possible 24 points.
Teams get four points for an individual win and two for a half.
Poverty Bay’s efforts lifted them from sixth in the eight-team series to first, two points ahead of Mahia.
David Waihaki and Bob Solomon had wins and Rusty Smith and Bruce Maher halves as Mahia picked up 12 points.
Pātutahi (1) had a productive day. Dom Wilson, Michael Broad and Shaun Nepe tasted victory. Tom Hindmarsh and Charlie Taylor shared the honours in their 16-point haul.
That performance lifted Tahi (1) to 28 points and third-equal with Tolaga Bay, who had the star of the day in Murray Yates.
He racked up 42 points in his win – easily the best Stableford score of the day – and was joined in the winners’ circle by Roland Waru and Mark Watts.
Electrinet Park had three victors- Luke Hayes, Heath Tupara and Ed Pirini.
Waikohu moved off the bottom of the table courtesy of 12 points from wins to Tipi Ruru, Frank Ngatoro and Larry Green.
Surprisingly, hosts Te Puia Hot Springs had a day to forget, registering just one win to Ken Lewis and dropping to the foot of the table.
Pātutahi (2) earned six points from a win to Pat Hokianga and a half to Dan Williams.
Yates was the stand-out Stableford performer. The next best after his 42 was Bob Solomon (Mahia), Heath Tupara (Park) and Daryl Goldsmith (Te Puia), all on 35.
A fitting tribute was paid to popular Te Puia member and kaumatua Nehe Dewes, who passed away at Easter.
Dewes would have noted the camaraderie that is a special feature of the Endeavour pennants.
