The United States is still without a Ryder Cup captain for 2027, and PGA Tour star Harris English has lifted the curtain on how the team is preparing after the 2025 loss.
The United States was destroyed by Luke Donald and the Europeans in 2025 in New York, as U.S. captain Keegan Bradley felt the heat and was in a rough state after allowing the first at home loss since 2012.
The United States has been without a confirmed 2027 Ryder Cup captain since, and after Tiger Woods flipped his car and was arrested for DUI suspicion, all hopes flew out the window and the 50-year-old declined the captain’s invite.

English is facing off against many European Ryder Cup stars at the RBC Heritage, and is hoping for a new life at the 2027 biennial event.
“I want to get back,” said English. “I want to get back next year in Ireland. It always leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you lose. Been on a winning team and a losing team, and losing sucks. It hurt a lot.
“It took a few days to bounce back from that. But going to give me even more fire to get back to Ireland and try to win the Cup back.”

The United States won the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straights, as English and the team partied into the early hours – but little did they know they’d potentially have to wait six years for another victory.
“I was a little more hungover after Whistling Straits,” said English.
“I wasn’t really in the partying mood. Obviously you want to congratulate Team Europe for playing so well. I’m good buddies with a lot of those guys.
“But losing sucks. It’s not as much fun as winning. We’ll get back. We’re going to kind of get back to the drawing board and get it right for Ireland.”

The 36-year-old is hunting for the first place $3.6 million prize at Harbour Town Golf Links, but so is European Ryder Cup star Matt Fitzpatrick, who’s in the lead at 14-under.
“Obviously Bobby Mac can play in the wind really well,” said English.
“Fitz is a good wind player. Maybe there’s some really good players from Europe; I think that’s the thing. They’ve been playing really, really good all year. They played really good at the Ryder Cup. I think they’re just some really good players.”

Harris added it’s good to have that be apart of his career, as the Tour star hunts for his sixth PGA Tour win. “Oh, 100 percent,” said English.
“I’ve had a lot of bumps and road blocks in my career, and it just makes you stronger and makes you better. Makes it more worthwhile when you play good golf, getting over some of those hurdles.
“I’ve had a lot in my career. I’m probably going to have more of them. That’s just golf, and that’s life.”
