On March 30, applicants Blueco submitted an application for prior notification of the proposed demolition of the castle building and cave structure at the attraction.
The site, which is located at the eastern part of Bluewater near the food hall, comprises a themed outdoor miniature golf facility with pathways, bridges, landscaping, water features and structures around a lake.
It opened at the end of 2010, closing permanently in October last year after the former tenant left the site.
The applicants state there is now “an opportunity to redevelop this part of the centre”, although there are no proposals at this stage.
They are now planinng on preparing the site “in advance of future redevelopment,”, adding: “The themed castle building and decorative cave structure no longer serve a practical operational purpose.

“Retaining these vacant buildings, which are unsightly and outdated, also visually detract from the appearance of the area which is one of the main footfall entrances into the centre.
“Their removal is therefore necessary to improve the overall setting of the centre and the surrounding parkland and to facilitate the preparation for the future development of site.”
The proposed works are part of a wide programme of external improvements at the shopping centre “to ensure the centre remains competitive, attractive, dynamic and interesting for visitors”.
Some of these works have already been approved including the redesign and enhancement of the Winter Garden Crescent play park.
Demolition of the two structures is expected to start this month and be completed by July 2026.

A spokesperson for Bluewater said: “Pirate Cove Adventure Golf closed in late 2025 and we have exciting plans for the space, which we look forward to sharing soon.
“We are continuously exploring ways to introduce new and exciting leisure activities to enhance the Bluewater experience, so guests can enjoy memorable experiences from the moment they arrive to when they leave.”
