I’ve had my sim for a few years now and just this week I’ve cracked three balls. What could be causing this all of a sudden? I don’t have swing/crazy ball speed. Where I’m set up the temps don’t fluctuate. Does the screen stopping it cause added stress? Do I need to be rotating balls more often?

  1. Certain brands are more prone but they will all crack eventually. MaxFli tours X have been the worst for me.

It happens. I hit a bunch of Calloways and Kirklands and random others.

Have broken several Callaways in half. Kirkland I more commonly rip covers.

Use a higher quality urethane ball and it’ll last much longer. Regardless, every golf ball will break eventually. Once the cover gets damaged or the paint wears off you’re also going to wear your screen out faster so you might want to swap balls out before they actually break

Have multiple balls in rotation, a couple of sleeves. Hitting the same ball over and over does result in this failure.

More rotation. Ive worn then cover off some golf balls cause I have like 30 of em I hit through before I collect and recycle.

That being said, I’ve also cracked a few of the lower quality ones.

I crack ball all the time, 3 chrome softs only after a month, older balls it doesn’t really have a pattern yet. are they hitting concrete or a hard surface? My hitting area isn’t climate controlled so i chalk it up to abnormal stress of being beat to hell and not being “cared for”

It’s from hitting the same ball repeatedly. Heat builds up in the ball if you keep hitting the same one, and it makes it likely to crack.

So, just try to rotate thru multiple balls during a sim session. Gives each ball a chance to calm down before being hit again.

  8. The balls heat up with repeated strikes and that causes them to crack. Put more balls in your rotation and switch out every few shots and they’ll last longer. FWIW, I’ve only ever cracked Callaway balls myself, I don’t use them in my Sim anymore, I use ProV’s or TPX’s now, but I rotate at least 6 balls for every session.

I have cracked a couple in my sim but they were all old and I was using them as warm up balls. I used 12 balls when I play. 6 of them I won’t hit any wedges with. 6 I mark that I use with any club including wedges. When the other 6 start to wear, I mark those as my wedge balls and put 6 new ones in the rotation. This has worked well for me. I have a bedsheet for a screen with a net behind it and don’t care if I mark up anything which may not work for everyone.

I bought 24 tp5 previous year (square lm) and am rotating 12 through. Keeps them longer. What are you hitting into? Impact screen or net? Usually impact screen cracks them faster, but also depends on what is catching your ball and how much padding there is.

Thousands upon thousands of strikes against srixon zstar* and prov1’s and I’ve never had a single cracked ball. When wedges leave any marks on them, they are tossed into the “Scramble” box.

I’m seeing roughly 5 rounds per ball, unless they take repeated high wedges, then they can get cut up quicker.

Spin data is so important, I would never use a ball I wouldn’t play with on the course in the sim.

I’ve cracked plenty of tp5 pix – I even gamed one and didn’t realize it was cracked. Blasted the cover off it and my buddies were in awe.😆

Never told them I grabbed a couple from the sim in a pinch before the round.

  13. NoyBoy98

Yes, coz you would have lost that in the lake or OB by now on the real course 😉

Consider how many times you are hitting that ball? On a course taking out putts, you hit a ball 50-60 times. and most people will lose 1 -2 balls per round. in a sim, you might hit a ball 100 times a day. ….and never lose it. So even if you are rotating balls, you probably hit a ball 500 times a month.

I usually hit Chrome Softs and PV1’s in the sim. Probably cracked half a dozen CS’s. Never cracked a PV1.

I’ve noticed Srixon’s Q Star Tours cracking easily after a few hits during normal play, leaving a very fine crack around the circumference of the ball.

Most of my simulator balls actually wear out of the dimples before they crack. But every once in a while, I do channel my inner hulk and split a few of these open. Honestly, big dopamine hit LOL

Buy a glove that fits. Golf isn’t gardening

Indoor simulator takes more beating than hitting on outdoor. Indoor cracked balls are far common than outdoor ranges

Rotate them out it’s a known problem because you are compressing the same ball over and over and not giving it time to cool down between swings. We have I think 6 that look like that.

Try lotion at night while you sleep.

  22. FrankieBeanSniffer

Soft ones tend to crack quicker

  23. HunterW0920

When you’re as strong as me oh yeah😂

  24. Skatones737

If you want another tip I switched to surlyn cover balls indoors. It does kind of suck but they get less sand paper type outer shell and will be better for wear and tear on your screen.

(I’m not sure what ball you are playing before 100 people comment …AcKsHuLly…)

  25. Wise_Boysenberry8075

I started getting a collection of cracked balls, until I started rotating them on hits. Haven’t cracked one since, but I rotate through 2 dozen. Sucks to crack them because the ProV RCT are loot.

  26. Ok-Blueberry7481

I think you’re just really strong

  27. -KeefGreen-

Its generally number of strikes. A ball can only take so many. We cracked many at my sim before we started swapping them out sooner.

I can actually tell by a feel when a ball had been hit too many times. The performance drops a bunch right before it cracks.

  28. I’ve cracked plenty of prov’s in my sim. I have about 48 in a dispenser and rarely hit the same ball twice in a row. They will still crack after awhile. I’ve even split a prov1x in half with a driver swing. That was weird.

  29. SouthDownFrown

Yeah I’ve found this a lot. My TM TP5x Pix balls split really quickly!! The Titleist balls seem to last a little longer. Funny how you get tuned into the sound of a cracked ball. I threw a Nike ball the other day simply because it had that cracked sound and the spin numbers were weird even tho there was no visible crack
