What do F1’s 7-timers have in common? By Jock Clear and Peter Windsor

Having worked closely with both Michael Schumacher and Sir Lewis Hamilton, Jock Clear offers his thoughts on the ingredient common to these two seven-times World Champions – and, for that matter, to Max Verstappen. This is an edited excerpt from a recent livestream, the full version of which can be watched on this channel under the “live” tab.
Jock Clear won the 1997 World Championship with Jacques Villeneuve (Williams-Renault) and the 2014 World Championship with Lewis (Mercedes). At Ferrari in recent years he has performance-engineered with Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

  1. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are both horrible human beings. Zero sportsmanship. Horrible teammates.
Jock Clear is lying to our faces because he will soon see Lewis in the pits.

  2. It’s funny to see Jock bring up Michael’s moments of terrible sportsmanship. I felt the same about it so I never quite liked Schumi because of this. But what was undeniable was Michael’s committment and work ethic, even to those of us who followed F1 without even being Schumacher fans. The guy was at Fiorano during the week, clocking in lap after lap, always trying to improve, always trying to find an edge.

It’s likely much the same with Lewis, though times are different and there’s a limit on testing now. People like to compare these guys in terms of who won against who, how good their team mates were and all sorts of other things, but the best ones always kept fighting, always got back up, always kept showing up hungry for the win and kept pushing themselves and their teams to greatness. It’s no accident Lewis and Michael sit at the top of all the record tables.

  3. Michael Schumacher changed the landscape of Formula for every other driver after him. He became the acid test for success and it's so refreshing to hear Jock state this ❤
