Floodwaters Swamp Golf Club as Cyclone Crosses New Zealand

Heavy rain left parts of New Zealand’s North Island inundated on Sunday, April 12, as Cyclone Vaianu made landfall.

According to reports, a state of emergency was declared in several regions, including Whakatane, Hawke’s Bay, and Waikato.

This footage, captured by Civil Defence Waikato, shows flooding at the Thames Golf Club in Kopu.

The MetService said Cyclone Vaianu is expected to move south over the Bay of Plenty on Sunday afternoon and Hawke’s Bay on Sunday evening passing west of the Chatham Islands on Monday morning. Credit: Civil Defence Waikato via Storyful
