1993 December 3 – Nigel Mansell win driver of the year award & meet Dale Earnhardt

In the third week of November 1993, a USA national panel of motorsports writers and broadcasters voted to choose the driver of the year.
Nigel Mansell, who took American racing by storm by winning five races and the IndyCar PPG Cup championship a year after taking the Formula One crown, drew six of the 12 first-place votes, with NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace getting five and one going to dominating NHRA Funny Car champion John Force. Mansell outpointed Wallace 86-77.
Dale Earnhardt, a former Driver of the Year who won six races in 1993, was third with 55 points, followed by Force with 32, NHRA Top Fuel champion Eddie Hill with 15 and Indianapolis 500 winner and series runner-up Emerson Fittipaldi, another former Driver of the Year, with 12.
On December 03, the award ceremony was held in New York City, with Mansell receiving his award and meeting Earnhardt before the ceremony.
