Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash in Florida on Friday, March 27, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
President Donald Trump said on March 26 that golfing legend Tiger Woods would not be playing in this year’s Masters Tournament, scheduled for April 9-12 at the Augusta National Golf Club.
A day later, Woods was involved in a car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Woods himself has yet to comment on his plans for the Masters; as a past Masters champion, he always has a spot in the field. But another tournament could bring the legend to the Columbus area this summer: the U.S. Senior Open.
Tiger Woods registers for U.S. Senior open
Woods registered to compete in the U.S. Senior Open scheduled for July 2-5 at Scioto Country Club in Upper Arlington.
Woods, 50, is not included in the initial field list, but is registered for the tournament, according to Golfweek.
“Tiger has entered the championship, simply to ensure eligibility, but will not make a decision about playing until a later date,” a USGA spokesperson said via Golfweek March 26.
What is the U.S. Senior Open?
Per the USGA website, Senior Open participants must be 50 years of age as of July 2.
Woods turned 50 on Dec. 30, which also makes him eligible to compete on the PGA Tour Champions Circuit, according to ESPN.
He has not played in a competitive tournament since the 2024 British Open.
Tiger Woods’ past visits to central Ohio
Woods is not a stranger to central Ohio links. He is a five-time winner of the Memorial Tournament, played annually at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin.
He has not played the central Ohio PGA Tour event hosted by Jack Nicklaus since 2020.
