I have tried this drill now with a pipe cleaner on a grass range and with a coat hanger on the putting green

Basically if you’re unfamiliar with this drill, hovering something over the ball can help you to keep your head still and reduce movement in your swing by ensuring that the ball stays within the circle. If the ball comes out of the circle then you likely have swayed to much one way or the other and will struggle to strike the ball consistently as you will have a lot of lateral movement

I think personally the best way to do this drill is with a pipe cleaner on a mat range because it is good that the ball can be placed into the same position every time so your not having to constantly move it around but also because you can attach it to a range basket and it is much simpler to set up than trying to get a coat hanger to stay where you want it (this took me a lot longer to set up than I care to admit)

I have recently seen a training aid that does this exact thing but sits in a swing plate that I am considering purchasing as it does look a lot easier and much more convenient to use
