As part of my YouTube series “Ten lessons every golfer should know”, the second Paddy’s Golf Tip covers “How to hit the golf ball straight”, which is a three-part video. Directly opposite to the first part, in this second part I explain how not to hook the ball and why you need to learn how to hit a left-to-right exaggerated slice before you can start hitting the ball straight.
I demonstrate this in two ways – by releasing the club under using the hands, as well as pulling the arms across your body. In addition, I discuss why a big turn is not the solution.

Such underrated lesson videos. Love them all.
One thing that may help is to increase your reach by playing some matches against some of the YouTube golfers. I know you have played a few but doing some as a collaboration may go a long way.
Another gem from Paddy ! Thank you
Junior clinic please
Holy cow! This is exactly what I’ve been doing with my driver the last few seasons. It was so bad last season I stopped hitting driver altogether. Thanks Paddy, I’ll will be working on this lesson asap.
This is right on time! I’ve sliced the ball my entire life, then suddenly this year I am HOOKING it! Still knocking the rust off before the season, and will definitely try this at the range tomorrow/thursday! Thanks Paddy!!!!!! Love ya brother!
A Phádraig, my weak shot is in a strong left to right wind, 58 now but when younger my shot was a draw now hitting fades but in the wind I've 2 misses a big cut going on the wind or a hook/snap hook.
Any suggestions? Go raibh maith agat.
And if you're slicing then throw your arms and clubhead right of the target and wala, a nice high draw.
How to stop a pull left and coming over the top?
Thanks as always for super clear and targeted tips. My ask is specific to a problem that crops up for myself from time to time. Can you speak to the tendency to begin coming over the top resulting in balls starting 10 yds left or worse if the club face is left open I get into a shank position at impact due to the outside-in club path and presenting an open club face at impact. It's super frustrating to go from a very on-target launch window to well left and then any time the face is open an occasional clanker.
Good stuff here
Legend ❤. I've always wondered how the face of the club should look at setup
Excellent as usual Padraig. What about golf ball selection? Does it make any difference for different handicappers. Soft feel or pro v etc. 🤔🤔🤔
Thank you Paddy – 'ya-legend-ye!'
Happy St. Patrick's Day!💚🍀💚🍀🍻🍺🍻💚🍀
Love your instructional videos … so practical !!!
Question … I’m constantly “across the line” at the top of my backswing and steep in the downswing, is that a symptom of overturning ? Would love to see a video on cause/effects of crossing the line & how to rectify.
Thank you 🙏
Great video Paddy! It may help 80% amateur golfers..
