Recently Nick O’Hern and Mark Allen listed the official Talk Birdie To Me Top 20 list, and the feedback has been off the charts…some of you thought it was spot on, some thought it was off the mark, some felt it was good, but needed 1 or 2 position tweaks. Thanks for all your feedback and keep it coming. Today, we have a look at a random selection of comments from a few wolfpackers.

– We hear thoughts on The Grange, that it should have been in the list. Also Royal Canberra.
– Some thought Metropolitan was too high, others thought PK South was too high, and another was pleased PK South was recognised.
– Commentator Paul Gow says that NSW is incredible and is in his Top 3, possibly #1 for him.
– One wolfpacker says that Kingston Heath was too low, we had it at #2, Mark and Nick give their view on that comment.
– We heard from someone who played the new Huntingdale a couple of weeks ago and has it as their #3 in the country now.
– Phil wants Nick and Mark to commit to play NSW, Royal Sydney, 7 Mile Beach, Kangaroo Island, basically all the contenders, before redoing the list in 12-months. They agree.
– A comment about The Australian and how some are not a fan. Mark disagrees and explains why.
– We had a number of comments about Bonville, so we find out where the guys would rank it and why. Nick hasn’t played it, and Mark doesn’t have it in his Top 20, however he said it makes the Top 3 for one particular category!

And we wrap the pod by discussing great golf trips, of which there are plenty, and we decide to dedicate an upcoming podcast to exploring the great golf trips available.

  1. Here's a controversial one. In terms of topography, design and wow factor, it would be hard to go past Kooralbyn Valley. Sadly, it could never be considered as it is in very poor condition and has been left to wither on the vine. In it's day, it was clearly the best course in Queensland. If it was at the Gold Coast and in mint condition it would certainly rank. All holes are different and every shot askes a question. So sad to see it's decline.

  2. Well l went from a commonwealth member to metropolitan member. Doak did some good work. The holes he went to town on are rubbish. Namely first, seventh and twelfth. Don’t regret the move for a second 😜

  3. I played a corporate day at The NSW many years ago, and the wind was howling. I remember hitting a 7 iron approach shot that should have been two clubs too many, only to see the ball land short and roll a long way back down almost to my feet. My long-hitting playing partner did the same thing next shot. Still love golf, though 😇

  4. The best thing about your list is how Australian or natural the list is. Its like you're a nation or golf nation that is proud of the landscape. Im in NZ, so many exotic plants on courses before Milbrook / Clearwater. The way Australians plant with natives and have cool bunkers and kangaroos is so awesome. Its gotta be the best place to play sport in the world

  5. Just back from Coffs Harbour and did play Bonville. It is visually spectacular and great fun, but the conditioning is not great. It’s always soft and the greens aren’t that quick…. At the back end of a top 50 at best.

  6. I watched the group of Jack Nicklaus Bob Shearer and Billy Dunk play the Open at the Australian. Nicklaus started birdie birdie birdie. Shearer started birdie par eagle. Poor old Billy Dunk with his low draw never stood a chance. I went away thinking that this was a course designed for someone who plays a towering high fade. Who was that again?

  7. The best ranking list is the one that lives rent free in the eye of the beholder. I think too many take these lists too seriously, use it as a guide to play at good places and discover what you like best and stick to it.
