The 2026 Cognizant Classic delivered one of the most dramatic finishes on the PGA Tour in recent memory.
Shane Lowry looked to have the tournament locked up. Standing on the 16th tee Sunday, he held a three-shot lead and a 95% chance to win. But everything unraveled on PGA National’s famous Bear Trap.
Lowry hit tee shots into the water on both 16 and 17, making back-to-back double bogeys and turning a comfortable lead into heartbreak.
Nico Echavarria took advantage of the chaos, finishing at 17-under to win the Cognizant Classic and capture his third PGA Tour victory.
This marks the second painful finish for Lowry in 2026, after he also double bogeyed the final hole at the Dubai Invitational earlier this season when a par would have forced a playoff.
