Burlington-Edison senior Cruz Hanstead returns for his final season of prep golf with high expectations for himself and the Tigers.
After finishing tied for 72nd place at the 2A boys state tournament last year with a score of 94, he and a few other upperclassmen are ready to go even further.
“My expectations are that we are going to advance far as a team,” Hanstead said. “We have some good freshmen that we can show what to do and what they can accomplish.”
Hanstead began playing golf when he was about 5 years old, when he lived near the Skagit Golf and Country Club. When his family moved, he stopped playing the sport until he was in high school.
“I went and played with a friend one day and it brought me back to the old days,” Hanstead said. “It is a completely different sport mentally.”
Hanstead is entering his final season with the hopes of heading back to the state tournament, keeping a constant average and trying to earn a spot on a collegiate team next year.
“The most important thing is having fun,” Hanstead said. “You might do bad but you can always come back and do better.”
