A weekday briefing from veteran Rhode Island reporters, focused on the things that matter most in the Ocean State.
⛳ Thomas Ryan, the former chairman, president, and CEO of CVS Health, and a current member of the University of Rhode Island Board of Trustees, was scheduled to play with Rhode Island’s Brad Faxon, a former professional who is now an analyst.
Ryan and Faxon’s team was not listed in the final results.
⛳ Thomas Gilbane Jr., the chairman and CEO of Gilbane, Inc., played with professional Johnny Keefer. Gilbane, Inc., is one of the country’s largest privately held construction companies, and is a major player in Rhode Island.
Gilbane and Keefer finished tied for 22nd place.
⛳ Aside from Faxon, the other professionals from Rhode Island who played were Billy Andrade (he played with Scopely’s Walter Driver) and Brett Quigley (who played with Paul Kaneb).
It’s unclear how Andrade’s team performed, but Quigley and Kaneb finished tied for ninth place.
⛳ There was one other loose Rhode Island connection, but it’s worth mentioning because his team almost won the tournament. Buddy Marucci, one of the most decorated amateur golfers in history, was paired with professional Rickie Fowler and the team finished in second place.
Marucci famously finished second at the 1995 US Amateur at Newport Country Club, losing to none other than 19-year-old Tiger Woods.
