One of our subscribers sent in Paul Wilson’s latest video titled “How to Hit It Longer and Straighter Than Ever!” asking for my take on the tip he shares—specifically around the concept of “turn” in the golf swing.
In this video, I’ll walk you through what Paul is saying, give my honest feedback, and break down:
What really creates turn in the golf swing
Why it can help (or hurt) depending on your swing
How to know if this tip actually applies to you
This isn’t a full deep dive on Paul Wilson or his method—it’s a focused look at one specific piece of advice and how it fits (or doesn’t fit) different types of players. My goal is to help you decide whether “turn more” is a cue that will unlock your swing… or create new problems.
📩 If you come across a video or swing tip that you want me to take a look at, drop it in the comments—if it helps the community, we’ll cover it.

02:09 Paul Wilsons “Longer Straighter” Tip
05:41 Does this work for you?

I broke down Paul Wilson’s advice because one of our subscribers asked for it—and this is exactly the kind of stuff I love analyzing. Let me know if this tip works for you, and if you’ve seen other swing advice you want me to break down next! 👇
Hi your great I love your online live stream your microphone sound normal hey can you help me out I relate to dis video I turn in my back swing wen I turn the other way my hips come square and my arms go out and I cut across my self left big time dose not matter what I do set perfect or try all different ways and I can not get rid of dis stupid movement thanks michael
I’m 60 and have had several surgeries – two back, two neck, both hips replaced along with my right shoulder and knee. I’ve always been a good athlete and can definitely hit the ball farther when I rotate but the pain is terrible when I play a round or come off the range. I’ve gone back to keeping the head still with little rotation and while I can’t get a lot of distance (140-145 with my 7) I’m fairly consistent. Any suggestions other than moving up a set of tees? Love your channel man.
First, thank you for this channel. Really has helped me to try to understand my own golf swings cause and effect. And second. Dude, that's Cringer on the top right corner top of the shelf! I'm born early eighties and I can tell you I had the whole series that I forced my dad to record for me on multiple VHS casettes when I was a kid. I had that same figure + maybe 5-10 other He-Man figures and I was a total fan. I wish I still had them 😢
Best golf channel on YouTube.
Great video again Tony. I love your content, insightful as always. What are your thoughts on where to look when swinging the golf club, specifically what part of the golf ball to look at? I have read a couple of articles on this very subject recently and wanted to understand what your professional opinion would be, essentially does it matter or does it make a difference?
Tony how far do think a golf ball should be thrown to determine your athleticism? Asking for a friend😇. I'm guessing about as far as my 60 degree carry distance?
Truths not tips…👍
Can you analyze Saguto Golf and his process for the golf swing. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
I wish you could teach me your knowledge & common sense is what I need !
Promoting 'Rotation' confuses many players. Clearing the hips is required to allow the hands some space to pass unrestricted – but simply saying rotate encourages OTT actions.
Paul Wilson's condescending tone in his delivery is off putting
What is your opinion of Martin Chuck and his videos?
I use stack and tilt, weight on my front foot at set up, I am 64 years old. I can hit my gap wedge 100 yards. I tried the old school rotation thing, but it does not work for me. I also have foot drop on my right foot, If I rotate to much I will fall down I am a left handed golfer. I keep my tilt, ball center of stance with long irons, slightly back with short irons. This works for me, I am hitting the ball consistently straight and longer than ever now. My wife found a 3 iron, it was a lot of fun hitting it! Ball way forward in my stance to hit this club properly.
Mic sounds right. No problem there.
🎤 👍
Paul Wilson has excellent content but I struggle with his sarcastic tone. He sounds likes he's alway talking down to his audience, with a tone that says "you idiots, it's so obvious, why can't you get it?"
Body type, so how do you look for a golf instructor that knows this type of information in my journey I've had teachers that mess me up. Cheers..
Great video 🙂
Just like every other swing method, I played great using PW's tips. Until the second round I tried it, played awful. I'm not sure but, I think my brain tries to sabotage anything that works well! Seems to happen every time I try a new swing philosophy (works at first, then goes bad). Doomed to failure?
PGA tour pro Brian Gay is no 2 cheek at impact. https://youtu.be/WIxUpu7uQKU?si=WzYzUMHBFufj8Dn2
I love your videos! What worked for me to help my sequencing is to pause at the top. My urge is alway to swing with my hands. As you say this helps me but could be detrimental to someone else.
Refreshing channel! Finally one that does emphasize the focus on individual traits. I for one found out that my lead hip is physically much stiffer than my trail side. So no problemo with deep hip turn in backswing, plenty problemo during downswing. I need some degree of toe flipping to square the face on full swings. No Mr. Wilson for me, unless I try yogafirst I fear. Using ground force momentum helps me a lot more with creating more clubhead speed I found out.
Can you break down the swing of Count Yogi?. Love your vids and the sound is great
Great video.
I started playing 4 years ago at 46 years old. About 6 months in, I bought Paul's Body Swing program. In short, it was a disaster for me personally. As a beginner I definitely took it too literally. I followed it methodically, and its the only "swing method" I've tried that I physically hurt myself with. My back was screwed up for about 6 weeks, I was going for a deep massage twice a week (about $1200 worth). I finally started improving over the past couple years by being much more critical and selective of swing advice and lessons, and by being realistic about what my body is capable of doing and identifying quickly what ISN'T, and pivoting away from it. I know Paul has plenty of fans, so no ill will toward him, but it just goes to show that one method doesn't fit all.
Your mike sounds just fine to me and I don’t hear so well. BTW: Appreciate your insight.
The mic sounds fine
lol no cheeks left behind
Paul's is one of the best channels I have found to help the average golfer play better.
Through my early years, I struggled with the typical new golfer’s slice, the I stumbled upon Paul Wilson’s book, Swing Machine Golf. It made sense to me, so I followed his method and, combined with diligent practice, it transformed my game. Even though I am not especially athletic, I got down to a 10 handicap at EnJoie Golf Club, a PGA course. Time waits for no man, though, and age and injury have taken their toll. Ankle and shoulder injuries have forced me to re-learn my swing, much to my frustration. I appreciate your videos where you discuss the pros and cons of the various swing methods out there. It helps to keep my expectations realistic!
Paul Wilson is one of very few channels I told YouTube to NOT recommend to me. He’s very smug about his method solving every problem including injuries like golfers elbow. Apparently a body driven swing eliminates the arms from holding onto a golf club and absorbing impact. Real magical stuff. Whether is method works or not, his style definitely doesn’t work for me.

This is very timely as I recently realized my swing has become arm dominant and I’ve been pulling shots largely due to late hip rotation, as in, not til after impact! 😂 Also standing upright to save the shot and losing spine angle.
he's also got forearms the size of Popeyes…
yes, stay away from that hold and lag BS…………Thanks Tony
Paul Wilson’s putting tip video is the greatest tip video ever, as he says in the title. Check it out. It works, simple
This guy has seen a lot of cheeks
This one was jam-packed with good info. Love your videos. Always getting the wheels turning. I turn my hips too much in my backswing. Something I've always struggled with. I'm only 5ft 6 but have freakishly long arms. Probably of someone that's 5ft 10 or 11. I tried shorter clubs but lost too much distance. I struggle to have good tilt at impact. I wonder if its just my biology? Short with long arms puts me far away from the ball with a driver. Or maybe I'm just not able to hit tour pro positions at 41 and riddled with injuries? 😅 I agree the more cheeks you see usually longer and lower handicap players. I notice when my speed is down I'm not sequencing properly and my hips aren't open enough at impact. Always had a bit of a stall flip move. Slowly getting it out of my game. But sometimes it shows up and I hook it into Mrs. Havenshamps pool. 😅
Do an analysis of Tom Lehman please
The Openess of the hips depends on the club you're using BTW
Kids have no trouble (girls especially) rotating, in fact they rotate too much. It is when you get older it gets harder and harder to create separation between the lower and upper halves. Look at a guy like Larry Rinker who discussed this quite a bit regarding the loss of turn with age. With the ball on the ground it takes flexibility and athleticism to achieve that Tour impact position. When I was a teenager (60 now), I probably was 70 degrees open with my hips at impact. The struggle is real! Good advice, yes, applicable for the average couch potato, not really.
Anyone that tells me he or she has the “magic move, the secret, the fix, what nobody tells you, do this to hit it straight, how to hit it farther, gain 20-30 more yards, hit your driver 300+ yards, or any other nonsense, I run. These quick fixes or tips will, most likely, ruin your swing, or, at best, won’t last. Cheers.
Paul Wilson is great and fun to listen to. His explanation of the turn helped me get my tail section moving. Check out his "Taming The Stallion" video, which is my all time favorite.
I think I’ll take up Tiddlewinks😂😂😂😂
Heck man… I can’t remember the name of the book but I read it back in the 90’s and it had a great club throwing drill where you literally threw the club out in front of you. The point was that if you’re thinking about throwing the club out in front of you you’ll make a turn and rotate through and everything just to get it out in front of you and you’ll also develop some amount of timing by learning how to release the club so it goes straight forward instead of left or right. I used to have a blast doing that drill in the backyard, the neighbors thought I was nuts and they still do.😂😂
Fun drill with some old clubs though.
Have you watched Ron del Barrio? YT videos are old but he has a wonderful looking swing and a simple method.
