The Brenham golf program will be in the mix for team and individual titles in the Brenham Invitational after solid first rounds on Friday at the Brenham Country Club.

Brenham sits atop the boys team standings after round one while the Cubettes occupy the second spot on the leaderboard.

The Cubs lead a 13-team field, which includes three Brenham teams, with a first-round team score of 299. All five golfers in the primary Brenham team are in the top seven positions.

Junior Caleb Klussman led the Cubs with a round of 72. He sits in second place in a 67-player field and is one stroke behind College Station senior Gage Elizondo for first place heading into Saturday’s final round.

Sophomores Holton Gillentine and Luke Alford each shot rounds of 75 and are in a tie for fifth place. Senior Levi DuPont and freshman Max Felder scored rounds of 77 and sit in a four-way tie for seventh place.

Freshman Joaquin Terry led Brenham’s second team with an opening round of 73. He is in third place.

Brenham’s second team is in seventh place on the team leaderboard with a team score of 345. The third Cub team is in 13th place.

The Brenham Cubettes are second in the team standings with a team score of 349. Brenham is 27 strokes behind St. Agnes Academy for first.

Cubette sophomore Raylea Kunkel shot an opening round of 75 on Friday to enter Saturday in second place of 27 golfers. She is five shots behind Katy Mayde Creek sophomore Veronika German.

Senior Sofia Workman was second among the Cubettes on Friday with a round of 87. She sits in seventh place.

Sophomore Caroline Sawyer also is in the top 10. A round of 93 put her in 10th place. Fellow sophomore Addison Siemsglusz is right behind her after an opening round of 94.

All of Brenham’s golfers will return to the Brenham County Club on Saturday for the second round of the Brenham Invitational.
