If your golf swing feels smooth but powerless… if your transition feels synced but you’re not gaining speed… you might be missing the most important move in the downswing — the “spark.”
In this video, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf break down the difference between a golf swing with no spark and a powerful, properly sequenced transition that creates effortless speed. Most amateur golfers overturn in the backswing, start everything down together, and completely miss the early lower-body acceleration that elite players use. That’s why you’re stuck with inconsistent contact, poor kinematic sequence, and lost distance.
We’ll show you:
– What a “no spark” swing looks like
– Why tour players generate speed differently
– How to create separation between upper and lower body
– A simple drill to train early pelvic acceleration
– How braking forces create real clubhead speed
This drill forces your body to organize sooner, apply the brakes correctly, and create the dynamic stretch that produces power. When done correctly, you’ll see sharper deceleration in the pelvis, better sequencing, and that “crack the whip” effect every golfer wants.
If your swing looks good on camera but doesn’t feel dynamic or powerful, this is likely the missing link.
You need mechanics.
You need sequencing.
But most importantly, you need the spark.
Try this drill for a few sessions and watch how quickly your transition changes.

How much u want for those Titleist den caddy coffee mugs…
Great drill. One more month and I can try with my new bionic hip!
Hey, your black waist band made me think…. a white belt with 3 dark dots, left, middle, right, on your hips would help people see your hip action more easily. You could go with a pink belt and brown dots for all I care, but the contrast on the waist band might help folks better see how the hips behave.
I could not overstate the importance of this move. When I realized this feeling in the swing I was literally hitting the ball farther at 67 than I did at 27.
This a fantastic drill. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Golfers are about a about 150 years behind baseball players in swing dynamics 😂
This is exactly me can do both swings on plane and powerless or 'spark' but i cannot get on plane with a dynamic swing. My top position looks perfect on video but I just cant get the arms down in time. I try dropping the arms faster and somehow end up getting steeper 😮💨
Making the arms a slave to the pivot. Good stuff.
Please do another video on right shoulder retraction, this time focusing on irons. My understanding is that it's crucial for the driver, but I'm not sure about irons.
Weird issue for you guys, I genuinely hit the ball better doing this drill than I do with my regular swing pretty often despite my swing being on plane. It feels like I get no extra power from the rest of my swing so something is clearly going wrong there 😅
