John Virgo, the snooker legend, has died at the age of 79; Virgo’s most notable victory was in the final of the 1979 UK Championship, where he defeated Terry Griffiths; he was also co-host of the Big Break television show.

  1. RIP john virgo,a legend and great character,sad news i grew up watching john and the lads playin snooker,great times as a youngster watching them.

  2. I started watching snooker in 1988, 38 years with John always there as my favorite commentator. Difficult to imagine life without him.

  3. John Virgo will be sadly missed. The tone of his voice and his sense of humour are impossible to replicate. What a sad moment in the history of snooker. May God send him to the highest gate of heaven. Amen 😢

  4. Saw him doing his impressions in the 80's in Wrexham, you've never seen so many blokes pissing themselves at the same time. Culminating in Alex's impression. Feel very sad today.

  5. How can you replace such an enthusiastic commentator? Snooker commentary won't be the same now. It was bad enough losing WT . RIP JV you will be missed.

  6. Not just entertaining, but profoundly knowledgeable and a wonderful commentator. Truly the grandfather of the modern game.

  7. At the end of the tournaments John used to do an act with impressions of the players and how they played . It was always very funny .

  8. Goodnight JV and thank you for the memories of big break and your amazing trick shots your famous one liner where's the cue ball going will live on forever rip.x
