A new golf course is about to open near Augusta National. And Tiger Woods has had a hand in its design…

It seems improbable – if not impossible – at this stage, that an injury ravaged Tiger Woods will be playing at Augusta National when the Masters comes around again this April.

But just a few miles away from the iconic course, Woods has had an important hand in the reimagination of the Augusta Municipal Golf Course – which will be open for visitors on the Wednesday after the Masters champion is crowned.

The course affectionally known as ‘The Patch’ will reopen to public users on April 15 after a 16-month renovation led by acclaimed architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling.

There will also be a nine-hole short course called The Loop at The Patch, which was designed by 15-time major champion Woods and his company TGR design.

The project was first announced at last year’s tournament, with Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley stressing that the course was to remain accessible and affordable to the town’s local golfers.

The club have stuck to their word.

The 18-hole walking rate will be $25 on Monday-Thursday and $35 from Friday to Sunday. Fancy a spin around Tiger’s nine-hole course? That will be $15 for local residents and $30 for others.

The Patch will also be equipped with a Trackman Range featuring 20 covered bays and a 12-hole putting course, which will be free of charge.

Booking instructions to play the course will be revealed on The Patch website at a later date, with availability increasing gradually until the club reaches full capacity in the summer.
