STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women’s golf will continue their spring schedule as they travel to Melbourne, Florida, to compete in the Moon Golf Invitational. The three-day tournament will kick off on Sunday.
The Bulldogs will field the same lineup as they did in their spring opener at the UCF Challenge, where State finished runners-up at 20-under par. The score tied the fourth-best 54-hole score in program history.
Avery Weed, the top-ranked collegiate golfer, will hold the top spot in the Bulldog lineup once again. Weed is shooting an average of 69.2 this season and has shot par or better in 10 consecutive rounds entering this week’s tournament. She enters the competition after finishing runner-up individually at 8-under last time out.
Ines Belchior will be second for the Dawgs. The freshman from Lisbon, Portugal, finished 6-under in the UCF Challenge. She shot under par in all three rounds, marking the first time she has done so in her career. Belchior shot her second round in the 60s in the second day of action, which made her the 10th Bulldog in freshman history to record multiple rounds in the 60s in the same season.
Samantha Whateley will sit in the middle of State’s lineup. Whateley, currently the 62nd ranked individual in college golf, finished even par at the UCF Challenge and earned her seventh career top 20 individual finish.
Moa Stridh will shoot fourth for the Maroon and White. Stridh earned her career-best finish at the UCF Challenge where she finished T10 at 5-under par. Like Belchior, she shot par or better in all three rounds for the first time in her career and now has six par or better rounds, which ranks her tenth among freshmen in program history.
Izzy Pellot will round out the Bulldog five in the second straight tournament in her home state of Florida. Pellot has been a mainstay for the Bulldog lineup all throughout her career, and will move into tenth for most rounds played in program history with the completion of all three rounds of the Moon Golf Invitational.
