The funding was announced at an event in Adare on Thursday evening.

A multi-million legacy investment from the government has been announced for the village of Adare.

Limerick Minister O’Donovan announced the funding, which will support preparations for the  Ryder Cup 2027.

Sports Minister Patrick O’Donovan last night revealed that his department is providing €5.7m to help ensure a lasting legacy in Adare and the wider region after the Ryder Cup.

Key legacy projects in Adare have been announced, which will be of future benefit to the Adare community and to the wider county as a whole.

These include the Refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall, the Refurbishment of Adare Heritage Centre, the Enhancement of the Adare Public Realm and a Tree planting initiative.

The Legacy Projects will position Adare as a key cultural and tourist hub in Limerick and the Mid West.

Minister O’Donovan said:

“I am delighted to announce that my Department will provide funding for these legacy projects in the village of Adare. Adare is a beautiful location for the next Ryder Cup, and I want to showcase Adare village at its very best for both residents and visitors alike, not just during the event but for many years to come. I am conscious that large-scale events can have some short-term impacts for those living in the area and that is why legacy projects such as these are a key part of the Government’s policy in relation to the hosting of Major International Sports Events.”

Organisers say the goal is to benefit the community of Adare for generations to come.

A key Sustainability Initiative for this event will be a major planting scheme of native Irish trees (within Adare and across the county of Limerick), which over their lifetime will significantly offset the carbon footprint generated by the hosting of the event.

It’s now all hands on deck as Adare heads into the final eighteen months of its journey to become host for one of the largest sporting events ever held in Ireland.
