The Nipawin Evergreen Golf Course has announced Steve Ryde as their new head professional.

Ryde, 47, started his golf journey on the sand green courses of Eston, Sask. before attending Lethbridge College’s golf management course. He became a professional in 2001. Ryde’s golf career has taken him from his hometown to Kananaskis, B.C., North Battleford, the Northwest Territory, and most recently, Saskatoon. He said replacing Derrick Tallon is an honour.

“I am an outdoorsy guy, I love coming to the golf course every day,” he said. “It’s a really great fit for my family, and it’s really exciting.“

Ryde also spent five years as the tournament director and manager of sport before returning to a role at the Willows Club and Clubhouse Golf Academy. He said he’s been interested in the head professional position ever since Evergreen hosted the 2019 Saskatchewan Junior Championships.
