The Project Wide Advisory Committee has approved the extension of three executive golf course cart paths.

The Golf Cart Path Extension projects are at Longleaf (Hole 3), Lowlands (Hole 2), and Sandhill (Hole 5) Executive Golf Courses, (each of which are Par 4 holes). The Sandhill project would cost $59,390, the Longleaf extension would cost $80,090 and the Lowlands cost would be $61,925.

“Of the 44 Executive Golf Course in The Villages, only three currently lack continuous cart paths on every hole,” said Bruce Brown, Assistant District Manager. “The primary purposes of adding full-length cart paths is to protect turf conditions and to reduce course closures during wet weather.”

Brown added that staff cannot enforce a Golf Cart Path Only rule which forces full course closures during inclement weather.

“Currently, at these three courses, we also prohibit four carts per group to limit turf damage. In contrast, all other Executive Courses, (with continuous paths), allow four carts and can shift to Path Only restrictions when needed. This flexibility is highly valued by residents, who prefer using their own carts in a foursome,” Brown said.

After much discussion, in a split decision, all PWAC members present voted in favor of extending the three executive golf course cart paths, with two members voting against.
