Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has committed to play men’s golf at Florida State University.Woods was recruited by FSU head coach Trey Jones after helping his high school team win a state championship. The Woods family has connections to FSU through alumnus and PGA Tour champion Brooks Koepka.
Charlie Woods has committed to Florida State men’s golf, and he and his father, Tiger, have connections to the Tallahassee area.
Woods was heavily recruited by FSU men’s golf head coach Trey Jones, who watched the junior shoot a round of 68 to help win an FHSAA 1A state championship with the Benjamin School on Nov. 15. Jones has led the Seminoles to four top-five finishes at the NCAA tournaments, including a national runner-up finish in 2024.
He announced his commitment on Tuesday, Feb. 10, and while the connection between the Seminoles and the Woods’ family might seem loose, there are a few important relationships that helped tie one of the biggest names in golf to FSU.
Charlie Woods and Miles Russell, two of the nation’s best amateurs, share a mutual connection
The top two recruits in the Seminoles’ 2027 class are Woods and Miles Russell, the top-ranked amateur in the world. While the duo compete on the course, they share a friendship off it.
Both players have competed in some of the top-ranked amateur tournaments in the nation and dominate the youth Florida golf scene.
Russell, a Jacksonville native, has dominated the youth golf scene and broke Tiger’s record as the youngest AJGA Boys Junior Player of the Year winner. He won just days after his 15th birthday in 2023.
Woods and Russell are both TaylorMade athletes, and the pair visited Tallahassee and FSU together during the 2025 football season.
The pair can sign with FSU in November.
Former Seminole great Brooks Koepka, a friend of the Woods family
Brooks Koepka, a FSU grad and multiple-time major champion and winner on the PGA tour, is a friend of the Woods family.
The connection between the two helped Koepka, who spent the last few seasons on the LIV Golf tour, return to the PGA Tour. He told reporters at the Farmer Insurance Open that he called Woods when he was released from his LIV contract, and he helped facilitate Koepka’s return.
“I felt like Tiger was somebody that I’ve relied on in the past for questions and answers and how to deal with things, and I felt like that was maybe the most comfortable call for me,” Koepka said.
Alongside Koepka, Woods also has a relationship with recent grad and Seminole phenom Luke Clanton, who is also a Team TaylorMade athlete.
How good is Charlie Woods?
Ranked as the 21st-best amateur in the United States, Woods brings expectations not only with his name but with his play on the course.
Woods’ biggest win of his junior career came in the AJGA’s Team TaylorMade Invitational, and he recently led West Palm Beach’s Benjamin School to a FHSAA State title in November.
He’s won two amateur tournaments and had three top-10 finishes in his career.
Much like his father, Woods can launch his drives far down the fairway and put himself in position to attack greens with confidence. He isn’t the finished product yet and will provide the Seminoles with an elite pairing alongside Russell if both players make it to campus.
