I went to 3 different club fittings — same swing — and somehow got completely different results. Different shafts, different heads, different advice… who’s actually right?

In this video, I break down what each fitter recommended, compare the data, and reveal which setup actually performed best on the course.

Drop a comment — which fitting would YOU trust?

  1. I definitely agree fitters sometimes seem real sketchy! It’s definitely important to have a good relationship with them. I went to a fitter for a full bag fitting. I let them know that I was not going to be buying an entire bag. His tone immediately changed. I fitting was awful and definitely didn’t leave feeling like I loved what I was “fit” into. I the went to another fitter. Let them know the exact thing. Their tone did not change the spent prbly more time with me than they were suppose to. I left happy and have recommended everyone go to him locally! The dude felt like he was a family friend and he was just there to get me to love the game more and enjoy it for longer!

  2. Only us golfers would consider getting a new set of clubs instead of paying a shop $10-20 to glue back two heads to the shafts 😂😂 enjoyed the vid 🙂

  3. I went to GolfTec and Dicks sporting goods house of sports to get fitted. Golf tech fit me into the Callaway Apex 200s and Dick’s Sporting Goods fit me into the taylormade 790s. golf tec suggested I go a half inch shorter on the shaft length while dick kept me at the standard length. I’ve only played Callaway irons and I loved the feeling of the Apex 200s but my spin with my seven iron was in the 3000s while my spin with the 790s was high 4000 to low 5000. The the Dick’s Sporting Goods fitter then suggested I try a different golf ball and then I got my spin up to the high 5000 and low 6000. I’ve been playing golf for almost 25 years, but never looked into my spin rate. I did some research and like the Dick’s Sporting Goods fitter told me the Apex clubs weren’t spinning enough for me which led to too much rollout. Although I like the feel of the Calloway’s better, I felt the taylormades were more consistent with my dispersion and had less role out. The golf tech fitter also suggested my lie needed to be changed because I was hitting with the heel down The Dick’s Sporting Goods fitter said I was hitting with the toe down. I told him what the golf tech fitter said, and he pulled out a board, put a sticker on my club and had me hit some shots. The sticker showed me that in regards to my lie I was hitting with the toe down. He then had me hit about 12 more shots just to prove I was hitting with the toe down. He showed me the sticker each time and the contact showed it was on the toe over and over again. The golf tech fitter measured the lie with a launch monitor while Dick’s Sporting Goods did it with a sticker and hitting board. My TaylorMade 790s arrived today. I would suggest you get more than one fitting and learn what the numbers mean before making a decision.

  4. Great vid, you’re a natural – subbed! Sounds like the first fitter only recommended DG 115 stiff for your wedges which is pretty standard as that is stock in most brand wedges. But each sounds like each fitter had their own biases.

  5. Seems good overall. U are not suppose to get that stiff wedges tho. Wedges u swing easy no need for xstiff 130 gram

  6. Thanks for the info!
I am relatively new with to the sport as well, only been playing for 2 years and all the info out there can be daunting!
That being said I’m considering getting fitted as well.
Currently, I am playing with a very old set of TaylorMade RAC clubs. Bought them just to get going with the golf.
So glad I found your channel, going to be looking for more of your content.

  7. This was interesting to compare 3 big box store fittings, thanks for putting this together! I'm curious what a non-box store fitter would've suggested for you? (like Club Champion, True Spec, independent reputable local fitter) One thing to note regarding the Golf TEC fitter saying he couldn't try the P790 with the heavier shaft… At the non-box store fitters they mostly use a generic collar system for all their iron heads and shafts, so they can mix / match any combination. Was the Golf TEC fitting using the fitting "boxes" that came from each manufacturer? Meaning that each manufacturer has a generic toolbox of their stuff with a small selection of stock shafts they offer, so in these cases they will be limited to what's in that box for that brand. Hence another reason I'm curious about a non-box store as they can do any combination.

  8. I did with golf tech and my experience was not great. I would be like you moving from one store to the other and pay the extra money.

  9. Fitters definitely get incentives. Especially if they are link to their staffs. Golf tech PGA super store, club Champion. They are the big box and only narrowly focused. I’m not surprised but the best and most accurate fittings are outdoor fittings. We don’t play golf inside on a monitor. Get your lofts checked they never come correct

  10. As a fitter its very hard to believe that you really from the wedges till the driver didnt find anything better than TM 😅🙈 Not that TM is bad but i fit people into wedges/irons/woods/driver. And very often a ping driver works better than the what they have the woods in etc. Everytime i see a golfer with a whole bag of all the same branded clubs, im pretty sure it was either a lazy fitter or not fitted at all🙈😅

  11. Getting back into golf after 10 years off. I picked up a cheap used set to get back into the swing. They feel great. I don't see a need to spend 1500 on new clubs other than they look really nice.

  12. As a 20 plus year golfer, that played highschool and college golf. I would say if you are new, dont get fitted. Why because you still havent found your true swing. This is why you broke the clubs . Once you have a couple years and a good swimg that you can replicate , then go get yourself fitted. Because your swing is still random you will get different fitting seasions. Work on your swing and game 1st, any golf club will work the same. Where a fitting starts to work is when you have a consistent swing and game.

  13. As a non fitter. They human and have their own way of doing things. Your swing is the only unique constant 😂

  14. …while you accumulated some information…you seem to be leaning in a certain direction….as one commenter mentioned you picked a heavier shaft to go with your 790’s selection …will be interesting to hear the results,
feel & differences of your iron build….One thing for sure …I’d
like to welcome you to the “Mad Scientist Golf Club!” Don’t worry it’s definitely a journey…& every day the sun comes up …it’s a new beginning w/ your credit card and checkbook in hand!!

  15. I got fitted for the first time this weekend, I ended up going with sub 70 golf clubs at their store. Reason being is because well 1. It was a lot cheaper for me for my irons because I don’t have 1500 to drop on an iron set. And 2. I didn’t want to try and get forced into something so I guy can make a commission on a certain brand and it kill my golf game. I ended up getting fitted into the 699 pro v2’s which are compared to the p790’s. I’m 6’2 and I too was recommended standard length, lie and loft with a 130 gram kbs tour stiff shaft

  16. I’m glad you were skeptical.
    It’s tough to fit away from a brand you’re a “fan-boy” for.
I’m also not huge on distance in irons, gapping be way more important.
I like your wedges. I would have the grips as midsize +4 grips, as you learn to dial, having the ability to choke down will become evident.

The forgiveness in the Ping 3w is my personal choice. Forgiveness at distance is coveted.
    Play well!!
Looking forward to to a putting lesson and fitting vlog.

  17. The problem with most fitters is they only fit you in a 7 iron. That doesn't fit you into your PW or your 4 iron. You are too young and too strong for foam filled clubs. You need to be hitting MB (Muscle Back) clubs that progress to blades at the bottom. TaylorMade P790 clubs have thin faces that flex too much for faster swing speeds. You need clubs that compress the ball on impact instead of the face being compressed. Club faces that have a trampoline effect causes a wider path of dispersion. Compressing the ball with a Muscle Back lowers the flight path of the ball and increases the spin. At your age you don't need jacked lofts either. Your iron shafts need to be frequency matched if you really want results.

  18. I trust no fitters. I bought a simulator and all the professional club building equipment. Taught myself about club specs, club building, shaft profiles, etc. Also, love that Landmand hat!!

  19. I spent an hour at Golf Galaxy and at the end I was told that they had nothing that would improve my game. To be honest I have a messed up body and all my clubs except putter are not normal. Once I started moving away from normal clubs and advice my game improved. I buy cheap clubs that sound like they would well work for me and about 80% of the time I get it right. I do not buy the super clubs that are advertised. I replaced my irons with fairway woods all the way to 38 degree. My wedges are al 37.5". My driver is a driver head, 3 wood loft and 5 wood length. And to top it al off I use training grips on most of my clubs. This make up works for me and I do not recommend it for others.

  20. It may just be your swing on that day. I'm sure plenty of club fitters are doing their best within the window of time they have you, but ultimately, the goal is to have you walk out with shiny new clubs. Regardless, most of us are always fighting with imperfections in our swings, minute to minute….day to day that likely would make even the most honest club fitter give varying results for us one fitting to the next.

  21. This video makes no sense. Why are you not getting fit for the same clubs at each place if you are trying to compare? At least irons at each place and then add a different club if that’s what you want. This is no longer a fitting comparison video like I was hoping for.

  22. I juat went through the same thing. 2nd Swing had me 2 degrees upright, fitted into Mizuno 925 HM Pro. Van's had me 1 degree flat or standard. All Regular flex. I tried Srixon's. They were nice in the 4-8i. The 9 and PW were too chunky. I went back and traded for a mint condition set of 2021 Apex Black's. They are 🔥. The shafts are NS Pro 950. Still enjoying them 4 months later.

  23. I think a huge problem with fittings is honesty, on both patties.
Fitters need to be brand impartial.
And people getting fitted need to be honest with what they want out of the fitting.
Do you want the best results for you?
Do you just want the best clubs for you from a certain brand?
Maybe there's a budget to stay in.
There's nothing wrong with having a brand you want to stay with or away from.
Just be honest about it and you'll probably get better results out of your fitting.

  24. I’ve been to 3 places to be fit here in UK and now have only come to trust 1 of them, which is Nine by Nine Golf which I prefer for many reasons, the other 2 you’re using range balls whereas nine by nine is a sin where you get to hit the ball you use for the best results.

Unlike anywhere else I’ve been, Nine by Nine has a universal fitting so each and every shaft they have can be fitted to the test club which they also have the widest choice of and plenty of upgraded shafts to try.

Another key difference going there is each time I go I see the same experienced fitter Mark who is very knowledgeable about all the products and gets to know his customers really well so you feel comfortable getting fitted in longer sessions rather than rushed hour sessions for a whole bag like some places.

  25. All fittings and the game itself is simply Face angle to path. No club can fix that. Find something you can deliver squarely and consistently. Took my Cobra S2 to a big fitter and luckily he was an honest fitter. He said something about the way you deliver that club I cannot beat. Hit new Mizuno, Cobra, Titleist, Callaway and they couldn't beat my numbers. That Cobra S2 is 10+ years old

  26. Well, now I'm concerned. I'm 6'6 and was fitted into +2 length and +2 upright Irons… +2 is alot more than what you were given and i wouldnt say i have T-Rex Arms lol

  27. I wanted to get a value on my car. So I took the tires to one place. My hood to another. And my license plate to another.
