I have a 19 degree Callaway Rogue ST Max 5W, I swing it in a range of 97-100 mph club-head speed. The picture above is a trackman stat from my 5W. I generate 225 carry off the deck and up-to 240 carry off the tee. For driver, I had an old 2006 R7 Quad and couldn’t hit it any further than my 5W, so I took it out the bag. Recently, I was fitted into a Callaway AI Smoke driver and it has been great for me. However, I only manage to get 100-105mph club-head speed out of my driver, this generates around 240-260 yds carry depending on many factors. Yet sources online and many PGA pros state that a 5W swing at 100ish mph should mean I’m swinging my driver at 110-115+ mph. Would anyone have insight into why I generate similar speeds with both my 5W and Driver?

All the fairway bunkers from the tips at my home course are around 260 to carry, so the extra 5-10mph and 15-20yds would make a MASSIVE difference to how I approach the course.

Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of backspin do you average with driver? If you have the wrong shaft and you spin the ball like crazy then it would make sense why it doesn’t carry further.

Average spin is around 2300 RPM with the driver.

Swinging 98 with a 5W and 105 with driver is very in line.

Swinging 110-115+ with driver would be more like 105-110 with a 5W.

It is probably a result of you playing the wrong shaft in the driver or having the setting incorrect on the driver head. Go and get fitted to see if the equipment your gaming is helping or hurting.

If I had to guess, you’ve just got an inefficiency in your driver swing. There’s a bunch of places it could be. Without a video there’s not much more anyone can say.

According to trackman data, in 2023 PGA pros averaged 106 with 5w and 115 with driver. Your gap is very much in line with that.
