App State women’s golf started its spring season at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in Palm City, Florida Sunday through Tuesday. The Mountaineers were in a dog fight at the start of this tournament, tied with Illinois State University and Elon University for fifth place, at 22 over par through 18.
The Black and Gold had a major improvement in the second round, shooting 5 over par through the second 18, charging up to third place. This bounce back was headlined by junior Ona Lukes, freshman Zoe Duval and redshirt sophomore Salem Lee. Shooting 2 under and 3 over par, respectively.
Heading into the final round, the Mountaineers found themselves in a fight once again to stay in the top five. However, an unlucky turn of events due to a tie in second place barely kept them out of a top-five finish, coming in just behind the University of Akron to finish in sixth place.
App State will hit the links again at the Babs Steffens Invitational at the DeBary Country Club, in DeBary, Florida, Feb. 23-24.
