Chris Gotterup has moved into second place in the first round of the Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale today, at -6 through 11 holes.
Gotterup, who started on the 10th hole, eagled the Par-5 13th hole. He birdied the 14, 15, 16 and 18 holes.
He is one stroke behind Matt Fitzgerald and one stroke ahead of a group of three golfers who are at -5.
The WM Phoenix Open leader early in the first round? Matt Fitzgerald, who is off to a fast start.
How fast of a start?
Fitzgerald was at -7 through eight holes, with a two-hole lead on the closest competitors.
Fitzgerald started on the tenth hole and birdied holes 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17, only shooting par on hole 12.
Max McGreevy was at -5 through 13 holes and Chris Gotterup was at -5 through seven holes.
Who should you watch in the first round of the 2026 WM Phoenix Open today?
For the early morning crowd, Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup and Jordan Spieth are scheduled to tee off on the 10th hole at 8:15 a.m. Scheffler is a two-time champion at TPC Scottsdale. This group could have a big following. Scheffler is the tournament favorite for the WM Phoenix Open.
At 12:33 p.m., Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa are set to tee off on the first hole. Matsuyama is also a two-time winner of the WM Phoenix Open and this group could be an interesting one to follow. Matsuyama is fourth in odds to win the tournament this year.
The group of Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young and Brooks Koepka could provide a lot of intrigue. Koepka is a two-time winner of the event and recently returned to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. This group is scheduled to tee off on the first hole at 12:44 p.m. Schauffele is second in odds to win the WM Phoenix Open tournament. Young is third.
