Travis Kelce brought the crowd to its feet at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open pro-am on February 4.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end hit such an impressive shot that it led a commentator to remark, “I think Taylor Swift is going to write a song about that one.”
The consummate athlete is currently planning a wedding with Swift and weighing whether he will retire from the NFL or play another season.
Travis Kelce is an athlete through and through—from the football field to the golf course.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end brought the crowd at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open pro-am to its feet on February 4 with a tee shot that was so good it made Golf Channel’s Eamon Lynch remark, “I think Taylor Swift is going to write a song about that one.”
Kelce put on the WM’s gold chain after he made the impressive shot on the par 3 16th hole, and People reported that “the ball landed just a few feet from the hole.” In celebration of his shot, Kelce took his golf putter and pretended it was a guitar, giving it a strum, according to Golf Week.

While Kelce would most likely rather be playing in the Super Bowl this weekend, this golf outing in Scottsdale, Arizona works, too. As the Super Bowl champion weighs retiring from the NFL or not, he’s also in the thick of planning a wedding with his fiancée Swift—an event that will reportedly take place this summer. He’s also hosting his popular podcast, “New Heights,” alongside his brother Jason Kelce, and on the episode released on February 4—the same day as his golf outing—he joked that Swift is “gonna kill me” after accidentally breaking her chair while recording the podcast.

In the preview for Wednesday’s episode, Kelce leaned back in his chair as he laughed at one of his brother’s jokes. As the chair tipped backwards, it made a loud crack before Kelce lost his balance. After recovering from his fall, Kelce said, “We’re good,” before jokingly adding, “Taylor’s gonna kill me.”
This followed Kelce making a similar reference—quipping “Taylor’s going to kill me”—after he didn’t get the reference to his, um, manhood in Swift’s song “Wood,” which appeared on her latest album The Life of a Showgirl. Kelce admitted, “I didn’t understand that,” but added that he thinks it’s “a great song.”
“I love that girl,” Kelce said of Swift, adding that he’s touched by “any song that she would reference me in.”

Whether or not Kelce will retire from the NFL is a decision that is no doubt looming large in his mind right now. On January 4, Kelce told reporters, “I’ve got so much love for this team, this organization, and the people here, so I’ll spend some time with them, go through exit meetings tomorrow and get close to the family and figure things out.”
On the January 7 episode of “New Heights,” Kelce said he’s looking forward to “being a regular human” after his football career ends. “Every season ends for me, I just put my feet up and I be a human, because I’ve been putting my body through the wringer for the love of it,” he said.

“I do enjoy playing football and the physical aspect of it—I think there’s something about feeling the wear and tear of the football season, just getting ready for a game knowing your body’s fucking beat down,” he continued. “I think there’s something to it. It makes you just feel like a mangy animal that’s out here just finding a way to survive.”
The Chiefs’ losing season this year has left Kelce’s spirits “defeated,” per Page Six, and a source said, “Taylor is trying to put him in a better mood by spending more time with him and not bombarding him with wedding plans.”
“She would want him to focus on [the wedding] after he makes his career decision, because she knows how important that is to him,” the insider added. Page Six reported that a decision about Kelce’s career plans should be on the table by early March.

“We will know a few weeks after the Super Bowl if he will be returning or not,” the source said. “That is his timeline that he has set to make a decision to play one more year or not.”
