Arizona Republic sports reporter Theo Mackie breaks down the 2026 WM Phoenix Open Pro-Am and gives a preview of the weekend at TPC Scottsdale.

The 2026 WM Phoenix Open is known as The People’s Open.

And the people love the Annexus Pro-Am the day before the beginning of the four-round golf tournament at TPC Scottsdale.

Follow our updates for the latest at the pro-am event on Feb. 4, 2026, an event that pairs PGA Tour pros with top athletes and entertainers.

Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald, current Cardinals Trey McBride, Budda Baker and Zaven Collins, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly and baseball stars Cal Raleigh, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts were among the people who participated in today’s Annexus Pro-Am.

Legendary swimmer Michael Phelps, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and former Dallas Cowboys star Emmitt Smith also participated.

The annual WM Phoenix Open Shot at Glory took place at the conclusion of the Annexus Pro-Am on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with celebrities, influencers and corporate magnates aiming to get closest to the pin at the par 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

Michael Phelps, the former Olympic swimmer and multi-time gold medalist, had the best shot among the celebrities, getting his ball 31 feet, 1 inch away from the hole.

After paratroopers landed and a low flyover by military planes, the contestants took aim for the flag. Most missed the green, but Phoenix Suns guard Collin Gillespie and musician Zach Top landed in the green.

Those in attendance included former Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen, NFL wide receiver Christian Kirk, Seattle Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo and former NFL wide receiver Golden Tate. Contestants included Cardinals players Budda Baker and Zaven Collins, former U.S. soccer star Carli Lloyd and Major League Baseball stars Alex Bregman and Cal Raleigh.

Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham was not among the scheduled participants in the WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am today.

But he did participate.

Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald had Dillingham take a shot on the 16th hole at the pro-am today, delighting the crowd at the TPC Scottsdale.

Here’s how it went down:

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce had a memorable moment at the WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am today, nearly getting a hole-in-one on the famous 16th hole.

The shot adds to Kelce’s memorable moments in Arizona.

On Feb. 12, 2023, Kelce’s Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl in nearby Glendale, Arizona, 38-35.

Kelce had six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown in that game.

It’s been a busy week for the Arizona Cardinals’ Trey McBride.

He participated in the NFL’s Pro Bowl Games on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and then returned to Arizona to participate in the WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am today.

McBride’s group consisted of professionals Brian Harman and Tom Hoge, with SanTan Ford owner Tim Hovik, Diamondbacks announcer Tom Candiotti and Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly.

McBride was asked by several news outlets about the Cardinals’ hire of coach Mike LaFleur.

“I’m excited about what he’s (LaFleur) bringing to the table,” he told the Cronkite News. “He loves the tight end.”

There are some groups at the 2026 Annexus Pro-Am today that should have big followings.

The first group to tee off on the first tee included Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald is in a group with Max Homa and Tony Finau, a group that should have some followers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly and the Arizona Cardinals’ Trey McBride are in the same group, a must-watch group for Arizona sports fans.
