I have a 14yr old stiff Big Bertha 3 wood, I love this club and it’s the only one left in my bag from my original set. I have an Ai Smoke with an Xstiff shaft, I like it but I don’t always swing hard enough to get all I can from it. Because of this I decided to swap the driver head over to my 3 wood and see what would happen.

Needless to say I’m pretty sure I just found my new gamer!

Why is that? Just because it’s shorter or because it’s a different spec shaft?

    Nice work either way!

So… you basically built yourself a mini driver.

What temperature is your simulator assuming? 80 degrees? (This is not a flame, I am genuinely curious)

I did this a few years ago. Play it at 44.5in. Best decision I made. Maybe lost 2-3 yards carry but hit way more fairways

  5. I have read that, in general, most stock driver shafts are too long for the average player. Driver shafts should be between 1/2″ and 1″ shorter.

  6. i really need to look into getting my driver shaft shortened lol

My old 44.5” Nike sumo still the most accurate driver I’ve ever hit. I’m considering ordering a LINQ Powercore cut to 44.5 for my current driver

I did this with my G425 and it went alot straighter, but i lost a good 30 yds. It did convince me to cut down my driver shaft to 44.5 though when i had a new one put in.

Why didn’t you just shorten your original shaft?

160 ball speed is not smacking it 😂

Did you add any extra weight to the driver head? I’ve been thinking of doing this

Is this only possible because they are both Callaway? Assuming here that they were screw off/on. Or are dissimilar brand fittings compatible?

  13. Now swap it to your putter shaft like a real man.

I play with the PXG mini driver, and I love it – I somehow manage to drive further and more accurately now.

I once played with someone who attached a PXG driver head to a shorter shaft and he let me hit on the 18th hole. Thankfully I hit it about 5-10 yards shorter (so I don’t feel the need to buy a new club), but it was an interesting experiment.

I have a like 400cc or however huge this cobra strong 3 wood is. 12 degree, I thought I was a driver when I saw it on the rack …anyways that thing slaps! Truly a mini driver without the mini head lol. It’s wild

Short shaft and lighter swing weight can help some people. Go watch ian frasier on his YouTube or the old club champion/txg YouTube for their breakdown of swing weights. It’s a very interesting watch but comes down to personal preference

When I finally got fitted, my irons ended up 0.5” short and .5* flat, but I went 1” short on my woods and have been extremely pleased with the results- I have never been more consistently in the fairway, and I used to be <2 (I’m around 10 now). Unless you’re entering long drive comps, play whatever you can put in the fairway. Just work on your short game. More of a generalization, your distance is great… probably still work on your short game though lol

I did the same for a bit.

Figured centre face contact was better than a mph or two.

I do this too. It’s basically what everyone loves about mini drivers but with a full sized head. Mine is a SLDR 460 head on a tensei av blue raw 3 wood shaft. I love that thing and don’t even carry a “regular” driver anymore.

  20. That’s awesome. Why didn’t I think of it?
