We’ve just passed the quarter-mark of the 21st century and golf has experienced more than a handful of new, exciting, and different ways to enjoy our favorite sport.

The recent two and a half decades have brought us hi-tech golf simulators, TopGolf, and TGL – all off-shoots that come as close as possible to true golf while not being outdoors on a real course.

Following those iterations, comes the proposed Megalodome Golf facility in Oswego, which will feature an entire course located indoors in a building under a giant domed roof.

And recently, keeping more in line with traditional golf played outdoors while enjoying fresh air and the sights and sounds of Mother Nature, “short courses” have become quite popular. New offerings like Cliffhangers at Big Cedar Lodge (Holes: 18. Par: 54. Length: 1,910 yards. Acres: 35), The Chain At Streamsong (Holes: 19. Par: 57. Length: 3,026 yards. Acres: 100), and The Commons At Sand Valley (Holes: 12. Par: 45. Length: 3,525 yards. Acres: 110) feature fewer holes or shorter distance holes. Very close to home, the soon to open Wee Nip at Grand Geneva Resort (Holes: 11. Par: 33. Length: approx. 1,000 yards. Acres: approx. 45) will debut in late Spring 2026.

‘Pitch and Putt’ maintains the philosophy of ‘golf outdoors’ and shrinks the amount of space needed to a minimum, and a recent pitch and putt creation infused a huge amount of challenge into the short course realm.

So whether or not you believe in the mythical cryptid creature, Bigfoot does exist in golf’s world – and it’s MEAN. Welcome to Bigfoot PitchPutt in the Cashiers/Highlands area of southwest North Carolina.

Bigfoot PitchPutt is a semi-private golf course designed by Jonathan Calhoun, featuring a unique 9-hole layout with synthetic tees and green. With a total distance of 419 yards, and a par of 30, this course offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience for all golfers. Walking-only on the course is the norm, providing a serene environment for players to enjoy the game; the topography will astound and befuddle scratch golfers and high handicappers alike.

Located on approximately 21-acres of the Chimney Pond Farm (tree farm), the course has 9 synthetic teeing boxes located around one synthetic green. The single green has 7 hole locations enabling a total of 63 possible tee-shot combinations. Natural untrimmed ground covering, along with six sandtraps (‘bunkers’ would be an excessively kind description), and an entire forest surround the target green. The hole lengths range from a short 9 yards, to the longest distance of 86 yards.

Bigfoot PitchPutt is a semi-private golf facility, and due to its exclusive nature, the opportunity to play Bigfoot PitchPutt is as rare as a Bigfoot sighting. Nonetheless, public play is allowed with advanced booking.

Owing to the nature of utilizing a single green, multiple groups are not permitted on the course at the same time. Reservations for groups of 4 to 12 players can be made for 2 hours, 3 hours, or even half day. The opportunity for singles or groups of less than four is possible, but they may be paired with other players.

With relentless vision, the masterfully crafted design of Bigfoot PitchPutt placed it on an epic site where insurmountable challenges were to be faced, but, if conquered, yields a golfing experience so remarkable and unforgettable as to be the memory for a lifetime.
