Mile End Golf Club has been taken over by Smash Golf Limited and brings to an end more than three decades under the ownership of the Thompson family.
Richard Thompson said: “Originally established in 1992, Mile End Golf Club has grown from its early beginnings into what it is today.
“For more than three decades we have built a strong reputation for being a welcoming golf facility with my late father Peter Thompson having fulfilled his desire to provide a place that local people could enjoy themselves.

“A few days ago, we announced a change of ownership would be happening, marking an important new chapter in the history of the facility and at the same time ensuring it continues to be a venue that everyone in the local community can enjoy.”
Mr Thompson backed the new owners to invest in Mile End.
He said: “While ownership has changed I am confident that Smash Golf Ltd will bring the required investment to improve the facilities and are committed to providing a modern venue for golfers of all ages and abilities.
“I would like to to thank our loyal customers, members and staff who have all contributed to the life of Mile End over the years. There have been many friendships made and to see the enjoyment that the game of golf brings has given us much satisfaction.
“However, time has moved on and although it has been a difficult decision I would like to wish Craig and Andy the very best of luck in taking over the reins of Mile End.”

Andy Humphreys and Craig Walton of Smash Golf Ltd were delighted to take on Mile End.
“We are excited to open our first flagship location in Shropshire and look forward to welcoming you all back to the facility soon.
“Over the coming months Smash Golf Ltd will redevelop the facility ahead of the golfing season. Planned improvements will include driving range upgrades, nine hole golf course development and the introduction of a Smash Golf Cafe.
“We would like to thank Richard and his family for their stewardship of the club and wish them every success in their next chapter.”
