SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — There’s tech everywhere in golf, and the multi-billion-dollar industry is constantly improving.

At CES 2026, formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, an AI-powered robot that detects and repairs divots, as well as G Grip, an intelligent golf club designed to give players data about their game, won innovation awards.

With so many options, it’s easy to spend a lot of money on golf gear. “I think there are a lot of options out there,” said Cori Matheson, an LPGA member and the director of Girls Golf of Phoenix. “Playing golf is the most important part.”

If you’re ready for an upgrade, Matheson says the technology you use before you get to the course will make the most difference in your game.

“I think getting fit is definitely top of my list for tech because what they’re using to help you has advanced so much, and then the equipment, whether it’s the new shaft design or the weight of a head or the design of a head that’s going to help increase ball flight, forgiveness,” she said. “I would highly recommend getting your swing looked at.”

A low-tech tweak is also important. Manufacturers recommend getting your clubs regripped every year if you’re a regular golfer. “If your equipment is not in the best shape, then you’re not setting yourself up for success,” Matheson said.

Golf courses are changing because of technology, too. “One of the biggest changes I have seen on the golf course,” Matheson said, “The course is not sharing with us as much of the yardages and things like that on the ground. You used to go play, and there would be a little marker that would tell you or a sprinkler head, but now, because everybody is so tech-based, they’re carrying it in their pocket with a range finder.”

Many golf carts are also equipped with similar technology. Speakers are incorporating course data, too. For example, Bushnell has a new $200 speaker that’s designed for golfers.

“You download a little app, and you actually get a visual of the hole, the yardages,” Matheson said. “But this was my favorite part because when you go play, it’s magnetic.”
