A local golfer has achieved high accolades for the second season running.
The Professional Golf Association of British Columbia (PGA) announced on Friday, Jan. 30, that Sandpiper Resort Golf Course professional Ryan Tofani is the top performer in the 2025 Professional Development Program (PDP) , earning the most points for the second straight year.
The PDP awards points to B.C. golf professionals based on their contributions to the PGA and communities and the province’s golf industry as well as personal achievements. This could come in the form of continuing education and volunteer efforts.
Tofani earned 109 points in 2025 for participating in continuing education, key PGA of B.C. events and volunteering. Chris Ward at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in downtown Vancouver received 81 in 2025.
Tofani attributed his outstanding performance to the many educational opportunities afforded to him through the PDP and encouraged fellow professionals to take advantage of those chances when they arise.
“I try to take in as many of the courses we offer, along with others outside the PGA of B.C., as I can,” Tofani stated. “It allows me to stay connected with the industry in all aspects, and I think more importantly it allows me to continue to grow as a golf professional and as a team leader.”
Tofani said while the PGA of B.C. has numerous opportunities to learn more, there are other programs the help broaden golf professionals’ horizons, including through The PGA of Canada, Golf Genius webinars and National Golf Course Owners Association Experiences.
The Harrison Mills-based golfer also highlighted his time on the PGA of B.C.’s board of directors for helping him grow professionally.
“It’s been an honour to serve on our Board of Directors for the last couple of seasons. We have so many great professionals on that panel,” Tofani said. “Each one of them bring passion and experience to the room; we engage in such thoughtful discussions each time we meet and I’m really proud of the direction the Association is heading.”
The top 10 performers in the 2025 program will split a $4,000 bursary purse to fund future professional development opportunities.
Tofani made local headlines last year with his fellow Sandpiper Resort Golf Course professional Emery Bardock after they took part in the 20th annual PGA of B.C. Golfathon for ALS. Both Tofani and Bardock made it through 90 holes of golf – five rounds in a single day – to raise $1,500 to benefit ALS B.C.
Sandpiper Resort Golf Course is located at 14282 Morris Valley Road in Harrison Mills. Canadian architect Russ Olsen created the 72-par. 6,500-yard course in 1995.
