After the deluge and the week’s competition cancellations, we were delighted to have a clear day on Saturday to officially launch our 2026 golfing calendar and to enjoy our Captains’ drive-in celebrations.
In the morning, 20 teams competed under blue skies in the mixed, team of four, shotgun start competition.
The winners with 46 points were Eddie Battersby (Co. Louth), Tiernan Byrne, Fran Anderson and Claire Farrell. Second with 40 points were Catherine Haugh, Doreen McGovern, Gerry Haugh and Derek Wickham.
After the competition, we had a full gallery of spectators for our 2026 Captains’ drive-in. Leading off the tee were our Junior Captains, Faye Barry and Caolan Kelly, followed by Captains Valerie Doyle and Colm Waldron.
Their four flawless drives split the fairway straight down the middle, to herald the start of a great year of golf in Rosslare.
For the photocall, the captains were joined on the tee by our Presidents, Pat Kinsella and Mary O’Shaughnessy, and the 2026 Vice-Captains, JP Cullen and Eilis Kavanagh.
Special thanks to the Wexford Golf Club Captain, Nicky Reville, for supporting the event.
Back in the warmth of the clubhouse, the Captains’ speeches were motivating. We’ll be hitting the ground running in preparation for the competitive challenges of 2026 and we wish our Captains and our teams a very successful and enjoyable year of representing Rosslare at home and away.
We have no Howden winter league matches to report on this week – we’ll be back with more results in the next edition.
Rosslare professional Jamie O’Sullivan’s Tip of the Week: “In the winter’s soft conditions the ball doesn’t run as much, so carry is crucial. Try using more lofted fairway woods as they might carry the ball further in the air.”
Keep up to date with news, results and pictures on our website (www.rosslaregolf.com) and on social media.
Golf with us and enjoy a delicious snack or a meal at La Vista Café and Restaurant, the coolest eatery in Rosslare. Visitors are especially welcome but remember to book your table in advance, particularly at weekends.

We are thankful to course staff for their early and correct calls, and also to Martin.
Whilst we are prevented from playing golf, members are encouraged to meet and socialise in the clubhouse, with the usual refreshments on offer.
We look forward to resuming ASAP, hopefully next Thursday, February 5.
