PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. (SMU) – SMU women’s golf moved up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth with a strong round two at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge.
“Great to see a solid first couple of rounds to start the spring season,” said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason. “Proud of the way that every player has contributed to put us in the mix to move up the leaderboard tomorrow. Very excited to see this team continue to grow and build on the solid start for the spring.”
Facing a field of 12 of 16 teams ranked in the top 50, the Mustangs found themselves in a tie for seventh place after round one. On Monday, the team moved up two spots with a two-over day. The Mustangs sit in a tie with Pepperdine in fifth place. SMU is ahead of six ranked teams including the second and third ranked teams in the country. The Mustangs are just six shots back of a second-place spot.
Emily Odwin posted a strong two-under 69 on Monday. She moved up 29 spots into the top 20 and settled in 15th place. The Barbados native bogeyed just one time on the day. She has her season scoring average down to 71.38 after her latest round.
Celine Chen and Kirra St-Laurent are among those tied at 32nd. Celine Chen posted a 73 on the day to head into the final day at five-over par. St-Laurent shot a 75 in her second collegiate round.
One shot back of the pair of Mustangs sits Mackenzie Lee. She carded a 75 to sit a tie for 38th.
Yoonjeong Huh moved up 28 spots with a 69. Huh birdied seven times on the day to move her into a tie for 57th. The 69 was her lowest round as a Mustang.
The Mustang squad hits the course for round three on the final day of the Challenge. There will be a shotgun start at 10:15 am CT / 8:15 am PT with the Mustangs paired up with Pepperdine, Oregon and Southern Cal.
