PALM CITY, Fla. – Kelly Zhao and Ashley Lafontaine finished the first round of the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate inside the top 10 individually to lead the Elon women’s golf team to a 22-over-par 310 on Sunday at Hammock Creek Golf Club. The Phoenix ended day one of the 54-hole tournament in a three-way tie for fifth place and sits 10 strokes behind leader Virginia Tech (+12).
Zhao carded a 1-over 73 to start her 2026 spring season and is just one shot behind co-leaders Savannah Dupre (Virginia Tech) and Alana Kutt (Daytona State) with 36 holes to play. Lafontaine ended the first round close behind with a 3-over 75, while Emma Hansen (+8, 80) and Annie Wu (+10, 82) rounded out the Phoenix’s counting scores.
Zhao birded the first two holes of her round on holes 6 and 7. After slipping back to 2-over through 11 holes, the sophomore finished strong by shooting 1-under across her final six holes, adding another two birdies on 18 and 3.
