What a pivotal PPV this was! It marked the end of the first half of the Attitude Era (Austin’s last match until the following year’s No Mercy) and the beginning of the second half (Hardy Boyz/Edge & Christian ladder match) all in one night!
Up until this point the in ring action during the Attitude Era was slow and methodical, leaned heavily on the brawling. Due mainly to a lot of injuries the roster was suffering with plus how new some of the guys were. Outside of Mick Foley, at the time there was no one able to make those OMG moments with (mainly it Mick taking the brunt of the punishment) To be fair the storylines were the driving factor up this point so what was going on in the ring could be looked over.
But that ladder match changed everything going forward. The Hardy’s/E&C stepped up, the Dudley’s would enter the picture, Jericho would knock whatever happened in ‘99 off of him, Angle debuted and the Radicalz jumped on over, it caused a seismic shift in the land scape at the WWF. Now the in ring action became more athletic. When Austin came back it was a totally different product and it all started from this PPV!
