President Donald Trump is expected for another visit to Palm Beach County, but if he plans to play a round of golf at his Trump International Golf Club, he may want to come prepared.

While the White House has not released Trump’s schedule for this weekend, notices from the Boca Raton Airport Authority and Federal Aviation Administration indicate the president will arrive sometime on Saturday, Jan. 31 and leave Sunday, Feb. 1. That’s when the West Palm Beach area will be in the throes of a severe cold front brought on by an Arctic outbreak, with temperatures forecast to drop to 33 degrees on the morning of Feb. 1.

But if Trump chooses to golf − or anyone else for that matter (we are the golf capital of the world) − he may want to heed this advice.

∎ Think layering when dressing. Wear a sweater, a long-sleeved or turtleneck shirt, hat and gloves.

∎ Wear waterproof shoes and wool socks.

∎ Walk the course rather than using a cart − if you can − to get the blood flowing.

∎ Do not leave golf clubs in your trunk (or the presidential Beast).

∎ Some courses do not allow hitting off the grass on the driving range, asking golfers to hit off mats instead.

∎ Cold air creates more drag on the ball, so shots will not travel as far. Plan to use at least “half a club to a full club” more for your shots to compensate for the distance loss. Consider moving up a tee or two.

∎ With the ground hard − even frozen − go for bump-and-run shots or putting from farther away to keep the ball on the ground.

∎ Make sure you stretch before golfing (probably something you should do even in warm weather).

∎ Stay hydrated and have warm drinks in your cart (yes, you can get dehydrated in the cold).

The upcoming visit would mark Trump’s 19th to Palm Beach since he began his second term in the White House on Jan. 20, 2025. His arrival would follow the Jan. 30 U.S. theater release of first lady Melania Trump’s documentary “Melania.”
