A good thing about DRS, fans could see when it was deployed.
I predict its going to be quite shit…
Only simpletons can dislike this, if they are F1 fans.
The added layers will be incredible
Was there an onscreen graphic for when DRS was being deployed? I wanna say there was but I don't remember it being that prominent or a big focus point by the broadcast team or producer when the focus was on an active overtaking moment.
I think depending on how well or badly these new systems are received by fans after a few races, they will likely continue to modify certain aspects of the televised events/races until they find something that makes sense for the viewers. That's my hope anyway.
I think the American administration seem intent on making F1 more contrived and artificially competitive,I don’t think tyre management, harvesting and regeneration really have a place in F1.for me a shadow of its former glory in the 60,s 70s 80s
Too many people, too many parties had too much influence on these regulations. We ended up with a mess.
the reason why in indy it works is that it is a finite resource over the duration of the race , unlike f1 which is reset each lap !! ptp indystyle would be better some would use it up early some later in the race and that is why it works in indy resetting each lap removes the strategy !!!!
Hang on, from what I understood, the overtake mode doesn't give extra power but you can just use it at higher speed, so it can only be used on the straights.
Gimmicky artificial crap that's ruining motorsport. Reduce downforce by 60%, increase power by 50% and let them fight. Less grip, ridiculous power and the ability to follow will mean the best drivers will win and the worst won't finish. Real racing.
Scaaaaarbs!! yeah!!
SO EVEN MORE LAME THAN DRS. GOOD JOB!
Good to see scarbs!!!!
I really hope this isnt as bad as it sounds. Its a shame to see green posturing take the heart and soul out of the sport. If people wanted to watch these games they can tune in to Formula-E, but apparently we don't.
F1 is looking and sounding a lot more like Indy cars. I hope the competition is exciting. Technology is one of the appealing aspect of F1, from my perspective this sounds a bit watered down.
Sounds like a bunch on convoluted crap..man I wish they had screaming v10 engines , and no aids ..just engineering and race craft .
I started watching f1 because of those things. it’s becoming something else , and I’m scared it’s just gonna get worse . I don’t care if someone can’t pass.. qualify better , build a better car , get good . I watch for the cars and the amazing designs . But now the cars almost look identical they are becoming more and more spec like . Still the best racing sport to me . But maybe not for long 😢
Go Scarbs!
But if they show the energy of another driver then that info can be fed to the teams and changes the racing. Its more organic racing between drivers when u dont know how much energy someone has when passing or defending. Like i would want to know as a viewer but if another team knows that the driver infront has 20% battery then they will feed that to their driver and makes the overtake pre-determined or not raw/organic. I think we dont need that boost button, might be better not having that and we might just be good with active aero and the normal way of managing and deploying battery
Artificial racing
Is there a full video of this interview or is it being split up into small bites?
Soo we again have something like Kers system?
At this point they might aswell just have some daddy’s money kid in his daddy’s mansion , in a racing sim rig and remotely control the cars
Soon a trained chimpanzee will be able to drive a f1 car
Niki Lauder
Far too complicated. May sound like a Luddite, but relying on graphics to know what’s going on, shows how synthetic and contrived it all feels. At least the cars look and sound a little better, but how we yearn for wailing V10’s and more simple, straightforward regs. Big sigh.
To be honest I don't want to know what the driver is doing. It's watering the sport down for the lesser driver. Black magic should stay mysterious. Fia could have access but I think the public should be kept in the dark especially the other drivers
Nail in coffin
DRS or PUSH TO PASS is laughable.
Until 2011, there wasn’t any means to give the car from behind an advantage.
Racing drivers used guile, wit or had superior equipment and the racing was Amazing.
They need to solve the problems of aero-effects of the driver in tail, NOT give an advantage to a slower car.
Push to pass is terrible idea
It's so lame that F1 allow the teams to make heavy, long cars with so much outwash, and insist on sensitive tyres that overheat so quickly to create false jeopardy, and then add all these gimmicks to make overtaking require the car behind having way less drag or way more power.
Indycar makes no attempt to show fans push to pass utilization and strategy. Consequently, fans can't really appreciate what is happening and the broadcast is boring.
Fudgepacker Hamilton loves to Push!
Surely this is significantly better than just having amazing racing with smaller and lighter cars running on naturally aspirated V10 engines powered by e-Fuels.
We need a rival series, v10, no gimmics such as tyres that degrade. Pure racing
I feel like the real improvement is that the overtake mode is much easier to adjust than DRS. For example you can adjust at what speed the ERS normal mode starts to drop of compared to ERS overtake and at what rate it does so. This wasn't possible with DRS and frankly I am a bit surprised that people aren't talking about this aspect. Another bonus is that small wings doesn't negate the advantage like with DRS in Monza.
I simply don't understand why you Euros insist on making the simple & effective Push to Pass of Indy racing as complicated as possible.
This hybrid stuff is ridiculous, who cares about carbon neutral race cars ?? They fly the cars around the world burning thousands of gallons of jet fuel per car every race 😂😂😂
I have not read the regs on active aero and not going too. Is there enough grey area that when opening aero it can be mapped to steering and accelerator position out of corner? Or is it binary on off with a time limit? The way it is explained is it is binary.
What a stupid system. Hate it.
Appeal appeal they won and we didn’t appeal appeal his helmet blinded me appeal appeal they are faster than us . F1 ruined I’ll never watch it again appeal appeal their tyres are blacker than ours appeal appeal they thought of something we didn’t . The beautiful spectacle is now like watching submarine racing except worse
Great, more engineered overtaking
Sorry, but this is a stupid PU formula. Hopefully will lead back to V10s.
This tech is going to put more emphasis on the driver
bring back racing
I love it how the FIA and F1 have been screaming to the heavens for the last year that DRS is dead and gone. We heard you, we know no one likes it, so we’re getting rid of it! And then they come up with this BS that’s even worse. Did anybody actually fall for this? Asking for a friend. It’s almost like F1 is seriously into S&M and they just love the punishment and the abuse people throw at them for being contrived and fake, or they just flat out hate their fans. “We’re gonna give you everything you hate, hybrids, DRS, little itty-bitty engines that don’t make any noise, screw you fans.“ It will actually be funny to see what happens when fails so miserably once all of these “new and young fans“ get bored with it and move onto the next worthless thing. I would love to see them come scraping and begging back for the old fans who have left them after years of abuse and mediocrity.
Lol so the defending driver has no chance again…oh boy, push to pass is gonna be synonymous to drive by pass
Got a feeling we’ll be seeing 5 car SLM trains.
Formula palmer Audi introduced this in 1998 .
But Jp was always ahead of the game
Indycar racing in America has used PTP for years. I guess F1 was influenced – for better or worse – from the other side of the pond for a change.
