IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Former Iowa defensive back Micah Hyde returned to Iowa City Tuesday to begin preparations for this summer’s second annual Micah Hyde Charity Golf Classic.
The event is planned and executed with help from University of Iowa students in an entrepreneurship class. Hyde, leaders with his charity and students brainstormed ideas for the event during Tuesday’s class.
Last summer, the charity classic raised about $50,000 for families at the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Organizers hope to raise more this summer.
Hyde created his own charity, the Imagine for Youth Foundation, over a decade ago when he took the entrepreneurship class with Professor Joseph Sulentic.
“The way I’ve always pictured retirement was to set myself up so that, you know, working with the foundation to be able to do stuff like this, like this is what I’m passionate about,” Hyde said. “This is what I like to do. Who wouldn’t want to retire and be able to put on events like this?”
“As a kid, I would, you know, attend, you know, charity events like this. And, you know, I’m just looking forward to continue to build off this one that we have.”

This summer’s event is planned for July 10th. The website launches Wednesday.
