Jason Day did not win for a 20th time on the PGA Tour yesterday. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the world No.1 who continues to dominate golf in a Tiger Woods-like manner.
But Day, who tied for second at 23-under, did reach a sneaky-good career milestone of his own at the American Express tournament, one he was quite proud of after a final-round 64. That helped earn the 38-year-old Queenslander the 100th top-10 finish of his PGA Tour career.

“That was a milestone that I was very interested in, like very excited to get to,” said Day, who accomplished the feat in his 372nd PGA Tour start. “It’s always nice to be able to come to the desert and get things rolling in the right direction.”
Now Day heads to Torrey Pines, a place he’s won at twice (2015, 2018), with a chance to get to 101. He’s just 12 top-10s away from being in the top 25 of top-10s all-time since the tour started keeping the stat in 1983. Fourteen away from his fellow countryman Adam Scott, who, at 114, is 23rd on the all-time top-10s list, per Statmuse.
For now, though, the century mark will do for the former world No.1.
“It’s just another little notch in the cap that you’re very pleased about hitting,” he said. “Something that I’ve always look up to – like, you look at some of the careers of the other guys and you always look at how many wins, top-5s, top-10s, top-25s. And then you don’t want to compare yourself, but like you always seem to compare yourself.
“But obviously yeah, I mean, it’s good to be able to finally get over that little hump, and now the rest is great. I’m looking forward to the rest of my career and seeing how many more top-10s I can obviously get.”
