The PGA Tour is done negotiating from weakness. As the 2026 season begins, CEO Brian Rolapp has unveiled a narrow, expensive, and time-limited path for LIV Golf players who want back in — and it’s a move designed to reassert total control.

Trey Wingo explains why the PGA Tour now holds all the leverage, how the return window favors only true star players like Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm, and why most LIV golfers are effectively locked out for good. This is not about peace. It’s about power, timing, and consequences.

Wingo also breaks down the most telling detail of the policy: Phil Mickelson’s complete exclusion. By defining eligibility strictly around major wins during the LIV era, the PGA Tour sends an unmistakable message about who it values — and who it doesn’t.

This is a clear declaration of dominance from the PGA Tour, borrowing straight from the NFL playbook. If you want back, it’s now, it’s expensive, and it’s on their terms. No extensions. No second chances.

  1. I think you are underestimating Saudi Money. Relax people, my point is they burn more on Soccer and F1.The numbers they spend on LIV and the other two is pocket change to them. Decades or more of massively producing wells has made them far more wealthy than many understand.

  2. As long as Bryson can keep doing youtube with all the people he collabs with i don't care about either tour or where he plays. The Bryan Bros, Bob Does Sports and Bryson made me a mega fan of youtube golf. Can't sit through a PGA or Liv round though because they are so boring and organized.

  3. You’re completely clueless if you think this has done anything other than open the door for other pgat guys to leave —- many of them are pissed that brooks gets to come back so easy and they’re definitely not happy that the door is open for the others to come back…. They turned down a bunch of money to stay faithful to the pgat… and some of them have already had their agents contact LIV golf for a possible jump.

  4. No their not your talking bollocks, brooks as gone back to play with Rory that's it he's always said he missed playing with him , put an end to Liv what a load of shit

  5. If Koepka pays 50MM to come back to the PGA he's a fool, he's not competitive in LIV or the PGA and his ability to win that 50MM back is not probable. If LIV didn't come into existence 2/3 of the players would not be enjoying the enhanced purses

  6. If they really had the hammer , they wouldn't be trying to lure players back. Masters final round Rory in the mix. Viewership was down 20%. Some hammer mate 😂

  7. I would agree if they offered all the players an avenue back. Otherwise, it was a ploy to get four players. One left. Two say they are staying. Only Bryson is left. So this isn't as big a win as people are making it out to be.

  8. Sad, the PGA Tour is Scottie/Rory and a bunch of Korn Ferry guys. I go to 6-8 events a year, the Tour without Tiger is not very exciting. I'm hoping that changes….

  9. Players ran to LIV to escape the ruthless vice-grip and attitude of the "patrician" PGA—and to potentially make some VERY GOOD $$. If the LIV tour folds or let's a journeyman player go after paying him (a "paltry") $20 million, the journeyman is in a far better position to accept whatever punishment restrictions the PGA will demand to come back.

  10. John rahm and especially Bryson dechambeau have all the leverage. The tour is watered down and unwatchable week to week. The US Ryder Cup team will get smacked around for the foreseeable future if they don't figure this out. The hard-line stance will backfire.

  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the PGA Tour create these re-instatement rules just recently? If so, and after reading how specific they are… they may as well just refer to them as the Brooks Koepka re-instatement rules. Bryson, Jon and Cam all said they are staying with LIV. I suspect that's due to their specific contracts. They probably can't leave or at least not without severe financial penalty. Anyway, the new what will call Brooks Koepka re-instatement rule is silly. This guy joined a competitor league and they welcome him back with a financial penalty that can be easily manipulated. Making a $5m donation to a charity can be jerked with. He can create a charity, donate $5M to it, get a tax credit for the donation then create a "management company" and charge a "management fee" to the charity to recover much of the $5m cash he donated to it. But that part of the story won't be reported on by the Golf Channel or anyone else.

  12. There is nothing wrong with LIV golf or players that go back and forth. They are professional golfers they can do whatever the you know what they want to do.

  13. Geez, the PGA has its little army out in force today. I’m surprised Wingo and Chamblee aren’t together in this video, high fiving each other. What a couple of twerps. Let people consume what they want to consume. If you like PGA, go watch it. If you like LIV, go watch it. If you like both, watch both. I’m not saying LIV is perfect, but neither is the PGA. IMHO, all of these professionals make way too much money. But at the same time, the individual should try to get paid as much as they can get in their chosen profession . Believe me, when you can’t compete anymore, you won’t be in a tour at all.
The PGA Tour has a relation problem. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone wants to watch 45 min of BS every hour and 15 min of actual golf. You want to know why YouTube golf has such a following? They actually show golf, and they are relatable. LIV shows a lot of golf per hour of coverage. I’m not against either organization. I watch nearly every major tour; PGA, LPGA, Korn Ferry, DP World, LIV, etc. I consume what I choose to consume. I don’t let 100 people on a YouTube channel determine my freedom to watch what I want to watch. Fn leave people alone and let them watch what they want.
Here’s the really pathetic thing about the PGA: Financial Services and Big Pharma commercials over and over and over and over. Then, we get the wonderful opportunity to listen to some random CEO tell everyone about how much they care about the community and how benevolent his company is. Give me a break. It’s all about cash flow. I mean the balls on these people is astounding. You sit there and yammer on about how wonderful you are, and the next day you’re telling HR to go lay off a few thousand more people. What a fn joke.

  14. You’re wrong…LIV will have additional leverage this season! To attract more fans…they’ll be increasing the music volume by 10 dB at every hole, additionally LIV will feature jugglers and cheerleaders. 👍😎🇺🇸🇺🇸

  15. I saw some LIV Golf on a TV in a bar/ restaurant a few days ago. No body was there live. I didn't know the players. It was a snore fest. It must be dying…..I mean maybe oil or tech barons are keeping it alive, but it is a DEAD product to try and enjoy.

  16. Mickelson is a known degenerate gambler who barely escaped indictment in an insider trading scheme a few years ago. Also a big mouth whose personal capital is about zero. See ya!

  17. Trey is spewing the PGA narrative. I actually went to the LIV tournament in Michigan and really enjoyed it. Great finish and very well attended. Trey, maybe you should check it out before you comment, and tell us how enjoyable it is to watch Scottie and Rory.

  18. I don't know what pga tour your watching but tommy Fleetwood! Not a highlight or Rory McIlroy. JJ spaun won't win again. Rating are down 33 percent. I and a lot of people I know don't watch pga tour. If Scotty leaves who is left that people want to watch?

  19. Wait… LIV didn't steal players, they gave these "Independent Contractors" an option to play on two or more tours. The PGA are the ones that set a one tour ultimatum for their players… greedy. The PGA wouldn't even let a player take a swing video clip from an event and post it. They wanted to own the player without any obligations to pay them. What other pro sport does that? I do like some other aspects of the PGA Tour, but com'on. Also, this competition between the leagues has been great for all the players!

  20. Great analysis. If Greg Norman had won just one Masters his bitterness would have been assuaged. LIV is not golf. It is a concrete Crazy golf inanity. Golf is history, tradition, honour, and duty. Well done, PGA Tour. The soul of golf is the millions of amateurs who play the game. Pro golf is a rare privilege, but it stands upon the foundation and bedrock of the game, the paying public and the amateur player.

  21. Trey, u do know Mickelson is 55 years old & he's made $200+ million on LIV. He's also said that he has no interest in playing the Champions Tour. Also, it appears Koepka is not going 2 have a smooth return as Windham Clark said the penalty was nothing. Also, I've been watching your podcasts since u started & it's telling that u trash LIV more than you compliment the PGA Tour. Dustin Johnson won US Open & the Masters & he just signed a 5 year $100 million deal w/LIV. PIF (LIV) still has billions to burn if they want to.
