According to the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District, crews were called to a roughly two-acre fire burning in a wooded area between two holes at the golf course. Firefighters responded around 8:30 p.m. with two brush trucks, a tanker, and two chief officers, and were able to contain the fire before it expanded further.

The course itself was not damaged.

A nearby resident said that an unattended fire from earlier in the day had flared up again in the evening as winds picked up, quickly spreading through dead wood and brush. He and several neighbors attempted to help create informal fire lines until firefighters arrived.

Officials said hot spots and smoldering logs remained overnight, with Porto Cima grounds crew monitoring the area and addressing any issues during the day.

The witness praised firefighters for their quick response time, noting that the blaze was slowed by green fairways separating wooded areas.

No injuries were reported. Officials continue to urge caution as dry conditions persist across the Lake area.
